My Tannoy Westminsters are for sale.

They are Westminster TWs and were purchased by me new in 1997. I still have the receipt. They come complete with grilles, keys and manuals.

They use a 15” version of the classic Tannoy dual-concentric driver and have an efficiency of 99dB for 1 watt.

They are generally in very good condition with no nicks or scratches. They have non-standard brown smoked glass protective tops which I had made when I purchased the speakers.

One caster has come off one of the speakers. I have it but it needs refitting. The casters are not visible as they are hidden inside the built-in plinth. This is of no consequence if the speaker is used on carpet. There is also some sun fading on the backs and one side of each speaker. This is not visible from the listening seat and the fronts are fine.

Functionally they are perfect.

I have used them for the last few years with an Almarro 318B which I have found to be a good match. I shall be posting a separate ad for the amp soon.

I no longer have packaging so cash on collection please – from south Shropshire. You will need a Transit size van and at least one strong mate to help with the lifting.

These speakers are known to members of the Hi-Fi WigWam forum as I have held two bake-offs and had multiple home visits. A couple of years back a Wammer came to round to my house to listen to my Linn streamer. On his return home he posted this on this forum:

Some time ago I was invited to JimR to hear his system with a Linn DS in it. Unfortunately it was playing into a pair of Tannoy Westminsters and sounded amazing. Absolutely bloody amazing. I was completely taken by the sheer scale and effortless way the sound was portrayed.

I am asking £10,000 or near offer. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I encourage anyone interested to come for a listen - bring your own amp if you wish.

Hi Jim,

If I were you, I'd hold off selling these until the summer holiday period is over, especially if you want to get the best price. This is a notoriously bad time to sell hi-fi equipment, especially expensive stuff! Come Oct/Nov, however, things will be different :)

Mornin' Gents,

Thanks for the advice. It is gratefully received.

We will consider what you have said.

(I'm not moving - I already have! I downsized to a retirement bungalow last year.)

Jim.

P.S. Have ordered a new caster and will fit it just as soon as it arrives. Perhaps this will make all the difference!?
