A guy on our local Google Group advertised a large collection of Dennis Wheatley books. I used to have a load of them but when we moved here, they didn't survive the cull that was necessary to avoid the van scraping along the ground.

I made my usual derisory offer and, as he had no other interest, collected the books yesterday.

I thought I'd start with the Satanist and quickly came across a reference to Walpurgis Night. I don't know if you have discussed this before Geoff but I assume there is a connection!! I don't remember having seen the expression before but perhaps it just stands out now because of your monica.

I think I've read all or at least most of Wheatley's books many years ago. I found them a bit plodding.

Poe was interesting to read though and I loved H P Lovecraft's writing.

Yup, plodding is the word!! It all seems a bit old fashioned now but as ever, sometimes, the stories manage to overcome the less than fantastic writing. Poe and Lovecraft are good.

Absolutely my favourite story in this genre is Robert W Chambers' 'The Repairer of Reputations' in his collection 'The King in Yellow'.

It could be about a group led by the late Steve Marriott who fight deceased rockers, led by the late Gene Vincent.

Not keen on collections of short stories as a rule, but may give this a go.

Yeah, talking of which, can you whip up a small demon and wave him around a bit. I have a Sony cassette deck that doesn't want to work. I'll leave it out of the usual pile so you can see it when you do your astral projection this evening!!
