WTD: Quad 34 or 44 pre

To try with my 405-2. It's sounding very well with a QED passive pre at the minute but just wondered if the Quad pre would bring anything extra to the party.

Not overly fussed about cosmetics or a phono card but it must be 100% functionally.

Have or know of anything ?

I reckon it would be better. I have the 303 and 306 and both need the drive from an active pre as did the 405 when I had it. Bit far from here for you to try the 33 or 34 though!! Hopefully someone will have something suitable.

I don't feel anything is lacking with the passive Gordon, just curious.

I have a Creek passive driving the Leak Stereo 20 and it suits it very well. The Quads do sound good but they just lack that little bit of oomph compared with the Leak - nothing serious.
