Hi, I just spotted Sevenoaks Sound and Vision are selling AudioLab Q-DACs for £199 (http://www.sevenoakssoundandvision.co.uk/p-10808-alb-qdac-blk.aspx).

I think that means there's a new set of AudioLab DAC coming and they're selling off their end of stock ready for the new version. So hopefully M-DAC prices will be heading the same way shortly.

If you don't want to hang in there for the M-DAC price to drop, the Q-DAC at that price is quite a bargain I think.

Hmm, interesting. I have been wondering about whether or not to upgrade my Cambridge Audio Azur DACmagic, and what I would upgrade it to. Maybe this is the beastie for me? Hmm. Thanks for the heads up.

Same Price at Richer and you can add 5 year warranty too; waiting for M-DAc price to halve!!!

Agreed. The next model of the M-DAC can't be too far behind the Q-DAC replacement.

But John Westlake the designer of the original M-DAC will not be involved so I would not rush in.
Here is the proper M-DAC2

At the moment, I'm more interesting in getting a cheap version of the current M-DAC than the replacement. Audiolab kit has a tendency to drop its price significantly just before a new model is released.

Trouble with the Westlake DAC's is that he tinkered around with them more often than Stan does with his... Software changes all the time and then he jumped ship, leaving the remaining engineers at Audiolab to reverse-engineer his shenanigans. Whatever you think of the competition, at least the Rega DAC for example is a known quantity from year to year and Stan is readily contactable regarding his products!

So is Mr Westlake.

Q-DAC for £199?

Yes, that is a bargain indeed. Fine DAC for that money. Hell, it was a fine DAC at £399.
