Hello everyone and thank you for having me.
My name is Mark and I live in Glasgow. Like a lot of people my age (50s), it seems, my upgrade path stopped with marriage and family, some 20+ years ago.:rolleyes:
My most recent purchase, at New Year, was a Linn Majik-I with phono stage to replace my Cyrus 7 integrated amp and Musical Fidelity X-LP, both of which I still have. Prior to that, we have to go back 20 years to Glasgow Audio in the old bank building on Gt. Western Road, where I purchased a used Systemdeck IIX900 in black ash with a modified RB300 onto which I hung a Stanton 681EEE from my previous deck (Trio KD550, partnered with a KA 3500 amp.) I was almost out the door with my new turntable when I was called back and asked whether I had a phono stage...I had already bought the Cyrus and was CD only at this point...that was when I bought the X-LP.:doh:
The speakers from my original Trio system circa. 1977 were Celestion Ditton 25s (couldn't afford the 66s). I have recently rebuilt the crossovers and they sound as good as new :) (eventually) They don't sound great with the Linn though...which brings me to my most recent purchase (i forgot) a beautiful pair of Yamaha NS80s (couldn't afford the 1000s and not worth the difference IMHO)
So: Systemdek IIX900, Rega RB300 (mod.) rewire by J7 next week, Dynavector 10X5, Linn Majik-I, Yamaha NS-80, Linn K20 cable.
Movie Room: Sony something 7.2 amp, Celestion Ditton 25 and Castle 5.1 (vintage original Castle of York) Linn LK20 cable.
I also have a lovely pair of Monitor Audio MA-3 which occasionally get an outing as extra rear speakers but , really, I just can't part with them and have nowhere else to put them :(
My musical taste is very varied but according to my vinyl collection is mostly 70s rock!
Pink Floyd, John Martyn, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Burton, Joe Satriani, Bad Co. Chick Corea, Jethro Tull, Alabama 3 etc.
I plan to upgrade my turntable to an LP12 in the next few months and have no further plans...except to tri-amp the Yammies lol
I dare say if I start hanging about forums, I'll get a few "upgrade" ideas ;-)
I have just built a 9ft high record storage unit, solid oak hi-fi rack (2 empty shelves...nothing quite so sad) and Moth II RCM. It is a slow job but immensely satisfying, to go through my collection, one at a time...RCM to TT to shelf.:)
