Bushmaster DAC MKII Firmware 2 Upgrade?

Hi,

Excuse ignorance first off as just getting into Stan's excellent products.

I have PM Stan but does anyone know if this unit would have been fitted with the Firmware 2 Upgrade as standard? I'm guessing probably not but want to be sure before ordering the upgrade (if I need it)

I doubt it would have v2 firmware as standard, as this has only just been released for the Bushmaster II. If in doubt, simply open the case (4 screws), and look to see if the chip is marked in some way. In my experience all Stan's modified chips have a handwritten label on them.

So am guessing not and the new "chip" will need soldering in?

If I open the unit and looking at the board from the top and front, where is the chip located? Is it the big one to the left?

No soldering required, just gently prise the old one out of its socket, and carefully press in the new one. It's the 16 pin chip near the front on the left side of the board.

I notice in the ebay listing you link to the seller is Home_Hifi. The seller is in London and Beresford also call themselves Home Hi Fi.

So if you bought from this seller then you may have bought from Beresford anyway.

If you bought the DAC only a month ago from Stan I would wait to see what Stan says - but I would think he either fitted the new chip or will send you one (Stan is a good guy !).

Yes, no question Stan is a good guy. I exchanged many an email with him before buying the Capella to use as a pre amp. Was so impressed with the product VFM wise so ordered the Bushmaster separately via eBay as then, it was cheaper than ordering direct from the Home Hi Fi site.

I have since heard from Stan and no, the unit I purchased hasn't got the upgrade so have ordered one and Stan confirmed it will be sent tomorrow. He also confirmed it is plug in, no soldering :)
