Hi All,
I have just purchased one of these following mainly positive reviews and future upgrade potential.
I have given it about 5 hours bench burn in and 2.5 hours play time. Initial impressions are quite positive. It is very detailed with good midrange in my system, using with Linn Axis/Akito/AT120. However, it seems a bit light weight in the Bass department. It doesn't seem to have the slam/impact I had previously with my Pro-Ject Tube Box 2 and Angle Audio SS MM. My taste is Classic and Prog Rock.
I realise, I might be a tad impatient and the Bass may develop once burnt in a little more but any suggestions (tube rolling etc.) would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Pike

Run it in more. I had an 845 amp that took about two weeks to come on song bass wise.

Hi Neil,
IPL Acoustic M1Tlm's. A DIY Kit Transmisson Line speaker rated down to 28Hz.
Am pretty sure it's not the speakers as had plenty of Bass with previous phono stages and my digital sources have plenty of tuneful deep bass with slam.
Cheers

Not familiar with them at all. With sound issues involving changes to valve amps, the first thought is that the amp might not be driving the speakers well enough which can lead to all sorts of problems re tonality.
Not knowing your speakers I can't really offer anything more.

It's a phono amp! I have the MS-12B, which is the same thing with a buffer stage. And it's certainly not bass light, but the 22B and 23B take the output directly from the RIAA section, which may be more sensitive to the input impedance of your amplifier. It might be worth investigating that.
I've just had another look at the schematic, and the output capacitors are 1uF, the same as mine. I tried 2uF in mine, and there was too much bass with those in my system, so changing those, or just paralleling another 1uF cap might work. But wait and see if it improves as it beds in first.

Thanks for the replies,
Well...have just been playing again for an hour or so. First I played the second side of "Rush" by well...Rush. Same old same old very Bass light but great Detail and Midrange. Then put on side 1 of Rush "Fly By Night" and WOW!! I now have slam, Bass depth and all round "feel" of the music. Side 2...more of the same. For those familiar, the last track "In The End" has a great Bass line in the intro part. Deep, Tuneful, my windows rattle again, Brill!!
Sometimes in life the unexplained really astounds. Why this unit has suddenly come to life is remarkable. Just goes to show eh?
Thanks again...back to the music :)

Congratulations! The MS-12B, 22B and 23B are ripe for modding too. There are a couple of threads on DIYAudio about that. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/analogue-source/165313-yaqin-ms-12b-phono-amp-reviews.html
And my Jungson JA88-D apparently suddenly gets bass after it is properly run in. Mine was already run in when I got it.

Wow the Jungson looks a hell of a piece of kit. I am only just scratching the surface of Valve equipment. Thanks for the DIY Audio Link.http://theartofsound.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The Jungson is versatile (I've split the pre and power sections so I can use them seperately) but it's only a standby until I finish modding my Velleman K4000 valve power amp. Given a choice, I generally prefer valves; I'm a sucker for glowing things.
