Hi all,
I'm George, I'm an electronics engineer by trade but the last 12 years of my working life was spent as an engineering manager. I retired 3 years ago & relocated from the UK to the Philippines in 2013. It's been hectic, 18 months for my house to be built & everything in storage for 21 months, eventually moved in last Xmas eve. The wife wanted a party on Xmas day so up all night setting up the audio system, fortunately I'd set up the Home Theater prior to the move. As I've got more time on my hands now I decided to dust off some vinyl after a 30 year absense & wonder of wonders my 30+ year old Technics SL-QL1 still worked. So well I'll be receiving delivery of an SL 1200 MK6 in a couple of weeks, I'd been reminded of what I've been missing. TT mods & tweaks to come hence my interest is the forum.

Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project, Queen, Genesis, Mike & the Mechanics, Krokus, Tangerine Dream, INXS, ELO, Tom Petty, Travelling Wilburys, Hollies, The Who, Rolling Stones, Savage Garden, Billy Idol, Def leppard, Barclay James Harvest, John Denver, The Carpenters, Supertramp, Roxy Music, Simple Minds, Jon & Vangelis, Asia, Yes, Lightning Seeds, Aztec Camera, Jean Michel Jarre & the list goes on & on & on.

The short post seemed OK but war & peace would not be accepted error message was "you are not logged in". Lost the post 3 times, copied on the 4th, tried signing in again & walah, I'll get used to it.
I use a local Filipino forum so I have photos of both systems already on Photobucket so when I'm finished gleaning all the info. I need for my impending SL 1200 MK6 delivery I'll start a couple of threads.
I've spent the last 4 days browsing the site trying to finalise what TT mods I will be doing so I'm off now to continue.

May i ask if the humid weather bad for the lifespan of hifi?

Back in the UK my audio & HT systems were integral as it was in the living room. Here I have a dedicated HT room & the audio system in the living room.I shall be posting pics when I've finished researching the info. on my 1200MK6. It'll arrive within the next month (I hope) so I want to be ready, I've already spent 2/3 days in the 1200 section along with mailing Graham Slee, Mike New & Paul Hynes to name a few.

Thanks for the welcome, Where about in Cebu will you be staying ? I'm sure the almost constant temperature here will be of benefit to your health. My house build started in September 2013, should have been completed by end of March last year & we moved in last Xmas eve. I'm still waiting for the snagging list to be completed but it's slow progress due to the penalty clause I put in the build contract. I was considering using one of the bedrooms as a listening room (they're all very big) but due to recent events that's no longer an option.
This is the first time I've experienced any humidity related problems so now a little bit of an expert. Providing there is plenty of ventilation there is no problem but in a closed room that's where the trouble starts. I have to run the air con in the HT room once or twice a week when it's not being used & a couple of days a week I open the doors, run the ceiling fan & also run a double portable extract fan, since I have been doing this, no problem.

Thanks for the welcome, don't worry I'm enjoying the Forum already. There's a story to my acquaintance to Cambridge Audio but that's another story but I feel you get a lot for your money & the sound suits me which will make it interesting when I start playing around with my new TT.
Here the real audio scene is for a privileged few who have money to spend & I'm bumping into manufacturers I've never come across before. A lot of the equipment is from the US but also the gear from Singapore covers a lot of European stuff I'm not familiar with.
The Philippines is very poor but they love their Karaoke, many have Karaoke systems & you can get a 400W RMS set up for 160 quid & it sounds good for the money (I have one). I belong to a local forum & it seems quite lively but they're always looking to cut corners, the saying here is cheap is good but saying that the whole populous loves music the problem is they all try to sing it :eek:

the philippines has a hifi speaker company called anthony audio.

i think most people seem to be into headphones or massive pa speakers with massive bass drives.
you come across plenty of them in the doorways of shops in downtown
