Does my needle look right

Sent my AT 0C9 ML2 to J7 for a clean cos I could see a blob on the end,it would appear its glue so was wondering is it a second,refurb or as its was intended
I bought it new from LP Gear in the US,anyone got an 0C9 ML2 for comparison

I'd look on Google for AT stylus photos as comparisons. It looks like a re-bonded tip to me.

John sent me some pics of AT carts he'd done and this is another 0C9 unknown version,my concern is the ML2 was bought as new

Certainly not the best attached stylus I've ever seen.

The diamond is bonded directly onto the cantilever rod, so looks fine to me!!! Most cartridges have a hole in the cantilever and the diamond is glued through from above.

Don't worry, just enjoy your records :)

P.S. I have an OC30 where the diamond has been knocked off. Same little 'mound' of glue, but a crater where the diamond once was..

I bought a Kontrapunkt B brand new with a ruby canterlever and tip, it also had a big blob of glue like that and it wouldnt track properly and sounded inferior to me old Kb
so I sent it back to Ortofon who replaced with another one which was fine and looked more like the 3rd post photo.

P.S. I have an OC30 where the diamond has been knocked off. Same little 'mound' of glue, but a crater where the diamond once was..

There's a guy on eBay asking £150 for an ADC 26 like that. :lol:

Looking at that pic I fail to see how that stylus can correctly track a groove....

It looks very much to me like the massively oversized blob of glue will stop it seating properly and fully into the groove.

I imagine you are hearing peak distortion especially as the CAV causes an increase of relative groove to stylus feed towards the end of each record side.

It's only the very 'point' of the tip that enters the groove, but I accept the point that there may be too much adhesive there. Why not ask LP-Gear about it and send the pics you've posted. You never know, they may be willing to exchange from a distance (one thing about buying locally...).

emailed AT UK yesterday with the pics so hoping will have some confirmation either way.

noticed that the cart wasn't tracking well sticking etc so hoping its the cart and not my FR24 arm

Thats exactly the conclusion i came to tht the blob of glue was actually touching the record surface lifting the needle out of the contact of the grove walls
