View Full Version : My Mother. RIP
I haven't frequented the forums for quite a while; I've had a bad time of it since last November at least.
I'm sad to say that my beautiful mother passed away on April 19th after a long battle with cancer. She was so brave right to the very end.
She was a very warm, caring, loving and strong woman with a great sense of humour. We had some good laughs and I cherish those times.
It broke my heart to see her suffering every day. I will miss her dearly but she's finally at peace now.
Love you mum xx

I lost my sister when she was 49. Cancer is tough stuff to deal with as it - usually - takes its time and you have to suffer the decline.
Sorry to hear about your mum. You never forget, I still have the odd tearful moment even after 20 years but you do come to terms with it in time.
Stay strong.

Sorry to hear that Gordon. 49 is way too young! Cancer is a bastard!

My thoughts and condolences are with you, Lee. I lost my mum last year to brain cancer, and like you was with her until the very end. It's a horrible thing to go through. Time will heal the pain of grief, but you'll never forget her.
I'll light a candle for your mum on Sunday, when we go to church and pray that she is at peace. Take care and God bless.
Marco.
Thanks for the kind words guys, and many condolences to those of you who have lost loved ones too. I don't think you can imagine what it's like until you go through it.
Love and Mercy

Indeed. I lost my brother at 43. He had the bad grace to leave us on my birthday. I suspect he's still laughing about that. :-)

So sorry Lee. My condolences.
I like many others have been there too, in my case first my Mum then my Dad. Its hard but in time the pain will be less sharp. If you need help to process this, get through it then Cruise are good or maybe a local church might have Grief Share.
Like Marco I will pray for you and your family. God Bless.
Regards Neil
Lee...so sorry.
Lost my Mum in the same way January 2014.
Came so quick, about a year before, and then She was gone.
If it helps coming from a Stranger who's been there...perspective comes with time and when I feel down I remind myself its not what my Mum would have wanted.
Good on you for posting here mate.
Personally I found forum life a welcome distraction and the guys I spoke to in more detail about my situation (no names mentioned but you really helped) were brilliant.
It DOES get better, and over time you remember the good times and not the bad.
Little things pop up day to day that remind me of my Mum and make me smile, maybe that'll happen to you too.

Remember the good times , sounds like she was a proper mum :)
Time will heal you , I was gutted when my mum and dad passed away , I now look back with fond memories
RIP mums
Guys, seriously, thank you for taking the time to say something, to share your thoughts and your experiences. I didn't know whether to even post the thread but I'm glad I did.
Gazjam, you're right, I do get down, and I'm a little ill at the moment too which isn't helping but, yes, I think my mum wouldn't want me to feel this way.
Cheers guys.
Nice one, guys. I think it shows the strength of the AoS community that we can collectively share our grief in times of distress. It makes this place human and 'real' :)

Lee, my sadness is with you all the way. I lost my Mom to liver cancer back in 1991, she was only 67 years old. RIP to them both.

My mum was also 67. Would've been 68 last sunday.
I guess we're all at that age, sadly, where we begin to lose parents, but still, 67 is not old!
I made my parents some slideshows around 10 years ago when I first got my Mac and a scanner. I scanned a whole bunch of old photos and made these slideshows for something to do. One was of their wedding day in '66, and one was of me and my sister (who has Downs) growing up. I put them to music; the wedding one was True Love Ways by Buddy Holly, and the other one was to These Are The Days Of Our Lives by Queen. I knew that they liked these songs but not that they were lifelong favourites or anything.
Anyhow, the slideshows must have made some sort of connection cos my mum chose both songs for her funeral!
Yes as you get older you start to lose family alas Lee. No matter who, it always hurts but you have to feel they are in a nicer place, wherever that may be, and are still watching over you. Lost my dad 40 years ago son 16 years ago. mum 9 years ago and wife 6 months ago so i know where you are mate.
chin up and your may find places like this will help take your mind off of your sadness.:)

Indeed.
Being able to talk, share - at the right times - I feel helps one to put things in context and gain an understanding of the grieving process. Its different for each of us but there are commonalities and its could to hear those, to know that what we are feeling, experiencing is normal.
For me it was about two years after my Mum died that I found things particularly hard, the pain at its most intense and its only in the last while that I have been able to start being more as I was before she died and my Dad. It takes time and while time doesn't heal as some glibly say it does grind the sharp edge of the pain.
I think one of the more unexpected things is being hit by sudden grief out of nowhere, ambushed by grief experts call it where even the most random of things, a memory, piece of music, even a smell can trigger a sudden intense episode of emotional pain, crying suddenly. This is normal for most people and one just has to role with it.
I hope you feel better soon Lee and if you feel like venting, sharing please feel free to do it here.
God Bless you
Regards Neil

Sorry to hear of your sad loss Lee, may your mother rest in peace.
Lee,
I have been off-line for the past few days, so have only just read of your sad loss. My condolences.
This is a very difficult time for you at the moment, and something you have to bear - but with time it will get better. These are not glib words: I speak from experience, having lost both my parents.
I hope sharing your grief with us will help. Remember your mother will always be with you in your heart and in your memories.
Barry
Thanks again guys, for your messages.

My condolences too, I lost my mother just over a year ago age 77 to Pancreatitis very suddenly, she had always enjoyed good health was very active and no loss of faculties. She was always there for my Father, now 78 who has not enjoyed the best of health, he is coping very well and remains independent with great support from family and friends. Unfortunately, I live three and half hours away and know I can't get here as quick as I would like if something was to happen, I felt bad about being so far away when Mum died and still feel I should have been there, It does get easier and I know there was nothing I could have done at the time.

Yes, it's very sad Mark, fortunately I was able to be close to my mum throughout her illness and hospitalisation. I feel for you.
