Yep these guys have been doing the outer rings for a long time now. I enquired some years ago when I had the stock Techie platter but I dont think they had one suitable at that time. Be interesting to hear from someone who has used an outer ring like these.

$ 500 to $ 1000 for a outer ring made of metal !
VPI & Clearaudio offer them as well from memory
rather spend the money on a Decent RCM

Great so you have an opinion from experience, care to share on the benefits ?

An opinion does not require experience. It's just a point of view.

No it doesn't. You can have an opinion without experience in the subject matter. It's for others, if they so wish, to challenge your opinion and substitute their own.

Thread drift is part of the experience of forums and often interesting in itself.

I can understand the principal of ring clamps themselves.
But the price hike for each of those models using different materials is complete mystery to me! Why would a stainless steel one be different to a copper one other than weight effecting it's performance? Looks like they might be introducing foo to the concept of a ring clamp for those who love a bit of mysticism..
These rings (as others have said there are a number of manufacturers that do them) are a good idea if you believe it is best that the record is held tightly to the mat (not everyone does) or if you have a warp you need to iron out (obviously not the comedy warp shown on the manufacturers website - none of my own records would need this). On the negative side they are quite a PITA to use and they must be very accurately centred or they will actually unbalance the platter. In addition, if you have a tapered arm like the SME IV and V the ring will almost certainly fowl the arm tube. Finally, they really need to be used with a centre clamp and not everybody like the effect they have already - plus there is the extra load on the bearing to consider etc. etc.

never used one , never felt the need & they look a PITA to use every record unlike a clamp that works in seconds
for $ 500-$1000 i would buy a RCM

never seen peter andre but i know he who be shite
It must be really difficult to centre them correctly. Surely if it isn't perfectly centred, the imbalance caused by it being offset is going to outweigh its benefits.

They tend to be heavyish. Imagine the damage if you dropped one on your precious vinyl.

I hate these dreamt up problems and the expensive cure to solve them.

Think you've got that the wrong way around Stan, the cure comes first.
In this case I wouldn't say it is a cure to an imaginary problem or a solution looking for a problem - it does pretty much do what is claimed and it does help hold the record more firmly to the mat (assuming that is a good idea). Unfortunately it's also a rather inelegant solution and awkward to use (IMO).
The money, quite frankly, would be better spent on a cartridge upgrade and humble record clamp....oh....IMHO of course :o
Personally I think the money would be better spent elsewhere too.
I bought one from TT weights 6-7 years ago.

The periphery ring comes with a Delrin type mounting adapter (Large disk) to center the ring on the rim of the record (It;s simple and quick). It's good for slightly warped records and some might say your cartridge. The ring has some mass to it which may add a little in terms of flywheel effect. It's handy for the odd record - I'll see if I can dig the thing out, it's been a while since I had a play with it.

I have a Rudolf Bruil one http://www.soundfountain.com/amb/ttring.html I have used it with the matching Record Weight, bit of a pain - even with the aligning device - but if the TT works with it, then for some records worth the hassle.
Link to photos of them in use http://www.soundfountain.com/amb/ttringpics.html
