I bought one of these blighters from the NVA ebay shop and i have to say without doubt it is the best Phono stage i have ever owned and i have had a fair few. Power supplies are a bit noisy so i am thinking about isolating tham somehow but the sound is bitching.

I've heard they are good. I'd like to hear one.

There don't seem to be any specifications on the various web sites, I assume they are solid sate?

:)

I have two PSU's. I also have a rather special Firebottle 2 which i use with my Orb and that's a nice bit of kit too.

:stalks:  This I must hear...

I really rate the firebottle and VTL I heard at yours Steve so this must be quite special.

NVA make some very good gear. They don't enjoy a high profile as their designer eschews magazine reviews, preferring instead promulgation by 'word of mouth'.

I've had one. It's hard wired to whatever cart you have though, but no big thing if you can find someone who knows what they are doing.

I had to place the PSU well away from the unit too as it induced hum.

I had at first the one PSU, then a second. Didn't get much more out of it with the 2nd unit...

It was alright, good. It was a good step up from my other unit which was a MF phono stage.

All in all, no way near as good as the one in my Croft but they are very different beasts.

Indeed the whole thing depends on system synergy. Here are my findings within my own system.... http://progmeister.com/nva-phono-2-phono-stage

Excellent write up Steve.
It looks like you have uncovered a bit of a gem. I've not heard any active NVA gear but from what I've read I have an admiration for RD's technical prowess.

I am still using my FB2 Alan so don't think it has been usurped. I am very fortunate and extracicant enough to accommodate both. I believe i now have the very best design of valve and solid state phono stages in my system without laying out silly money. Both my FB and Phono 2 are totally out performing designs costing ridiculous amounts of cash in nearly all aspects.
Excellent write up Steve.

nice write up Steve.

i had a phono2 with a single psu, running in mm, was excellent.

i'm looking forward to Des getting the firebottle stage that's doing the rounds. will be very interesting to listen to it. i wasn't particularly impressed with it at the NEBO i came to, but that's not a fair appraisal as we were changing kit all day etc. (i didn't think my own stage sounded as good as it should that day either)

It's certainly not as characterful sounding as a Croft can be... I'm speaking as an owner of both a Phono 2 and a Croft (to roughly R level) by the way
