indeed... I suppose being vertical, gravity has a smaller part so I'm guessing it would be computer controlled. Also, check out the bolts on the cart, they look very staggered to me.

The staggered bolts are so the cartridge cantilever is set at the correct offset angle.

I think you'd be over estimating the tech and production cost. More likely a spring which goes wrong over time...

I think I'd prefer to get an old school Mitsubishi vertical record player or a Sharp ghetto blaster.

With those kinds of "me too" record players, I don't really see much point. The sound quality will likely be such that people are better off buying the CD and having the vinyl on display.
