Thank you to the administrators of this forum for consenting to my membership.
I have two systems and various bits around the house so feel I am in good company here.
I am going to look around the pages now and see if anything takes my fancy.
Once again thank you for the privilege of allowing my membership.
Hi and welcome. If you could put your first name and a more accurate location in the box so it appears opposite you user name as per site rules please then youll be all set. We try to be friendly hear and boxthirteen and england it vague to say the least.;)

Struth; thanks, I'm perhaps looking in the wrong place, I'll have another look around.
Picked up a new pair yesterday for half price.
Anyone know if they are good enough as front speakers, or are they surround?
should be all right in a smallish room for a stereo system. think they are only 4 inch drivers so there is a limit to how much air they can move. ..think MA make them and used to do full 5.1 packages with them.

Grant is correct. The loudness level achievable may be limited, but you should be able to get a more substantial sound by having the speakers close to the back wall or in a corner. Be careful using speakers in corners though, as it can lead to 'booming' effects. Just experiment.
I have the Yamaha YST-FSW 050/150 to fill in the bottom end.
Just read and enjoyed this thread, I don't agree with all the points, but in the end I think a lot of it comes down to simple taste and personal preference
Here's something that might interest members.
I hate black gear, the simple reason being that as a wearer of varilux glasses, I find the legend on black equipment almost impossible to read. It also looks dusty all the time.
Therefore I try when ever possible to get silver equipment.
I would love some manufacturer to make royal blue gear though with white legends.

It's just common sense. Interaction between members and what is acceptable in post content, really only requires the same standards and approach that a reasonable person uses in every day life in face to face situations. Things on AOS generally go smoothly and in a friendly way. Efforts are made to ensure this.

I get the impression that members of some other forums spend a fair bit of time ducking for cover from various onslaughts. In comparison AOS must seem an ocean of civilised tranquility and friendly banter. No doubt my little observation will attract flak elsewhere :lol:.

Thanks Shaun, I am just aware that I can get the wrong end of many sticks, and that my attempts at humour does not always come over in texts, e-mails etc.

As coincidence would have it I bought an amplifier today. The Teac AX5000, second hand from a friend of a friend, over the phone too.. I hate black, but he assured me I would love it once I heard it and he settled for £33:00.
I intend it to be the heart of a system I am putting together in my studio.
To think I nearly bought a Roksan Kandy in blue for £465:00, off an internet site; I was tempted and then the Teac came along.
What are your feelings on Black gear?

I don't know the Teac amp you mention, but their gear is nicely made, so it's likely to be OK.

I have an eye defect and have to have big characters so I can see what I am doing.
If I zoom the screen I lose some info so it was for my convenience.
I don't understand why when colours are available, I cannot use them, perhaps the moderators should remove them if they find them distasteful?
Good job this site is so 'friendly' or I would have found the slapping quite upsetting.I am still trying to find my way around the site, so I hope I will be forgiven for all my transgressions?!

As I implied, the big blue font is 'unusual', so to speak and it gives your posts a look we are not used to. Please carry on and enjoy the forum. I personally would like to know more about your system. Can you tell us?

I have a friend that writes to me in capitals and very large font. Initially, I found it irritating, but I know that he has a sight problem and this is much easier for him. I'm used to it now.

Because it's subtle. I don't like rows of shiny silver stuff staring me in the face. Fortunately the equipment I like seems to come in black anyway. Speakers apart.
I'm the exact same: hi-fi equipment should be heard and not 'seen', as it's merely a tool for reproducing music, not an object to be admired! :exactly:

'Cos it's retro-tastic, dude! That's a different ball game altogether. Not that I have any on my current equipment...
However, that's why I like rather 'sober' looking broadcast equipment. It looks purposeful: like it 'means business', instead of prettifying things to pacify the ponces! ;)

I've just noticed that the aluminium fronted equipment is usually better build quality.
A more substantial box and rear, even though the front is what you see.
I just don't think you can beat a good quarter inch of solid alloy.

Sorry but I don't agree... my Audo Note amp has a subtle acrylic type black facia and I think it looks nice and understated, just how I like my equipment to look to be honest... ;)

Nina, I meant the build quality, not the appearence, I find silver is usually a more substantial support for the components.

Interconnects are the Van Damme grey 0.5m and the 79 strand oxy-free copper speaker cable.
The sound is articulate and dynamic and my next acquisition is to be a DAB tuner.
Now having said all that I have just bought the above.

It's necessary for instance, to keep admin areas 'off limits', as it were.
Same principle as going into a shop. You don't go behind the counter. :)

I would just like to say it was confusing to this novice.
Why not simply label those areas Moderators only, if you don't want anyone to contribute to them?
