..or otherwise titled 'A visit to Symon's place'.

We arrived down in Bristol at around 12 midday, the M5 was quite busy with a small hold up on the way.

The arrangement with Peter was to demonstrate a valve phono preamp to him to help with his future upgrade path, plus to inspect and collect the Lenco GL 75 he had for sale.
A welcome hot drink and a few tunes put us all in a mellow mood and the Firebottle 2 was plumbed in.

A bit of a chinwag and listening to the likes of David Bowie, Led Zepplin, Bill Haley, and Gerry Rafferty filled the first couple of hours.

Peter had his recently acquired Lenco as the source and very well it sounded too:

The talk came around to ale, and local ales in particular. Turned out there was a brewery in walking distance so a walk around a few blocks was in order. It was a really enjoyable little outing, one of the streets we walked had a street party in progress with local adults and kids all having a good time.

There was a lovely air of community plus longer views of Clifton and one end of the suspension bridge.
Anyway back to the ales, it transpired that the brewery was shut but we did get samples of the local brews from a local outlet:

Popping into the local charity shops on the way back found a few new CD's to our respective collections.

The GL 75 was agreed upon so that's given me a rather good project to work on :)

All in all a lovely day out, thanks for the hospitality Peter,

Nice one Alan. Bristol is a great city and in a very nice part of the world.

I will be very keen to know how you get on with the Lenco GL75 as I have one too that needs sorting!

I've just put an AT cart in the spare headshell, released the motor clamping screws, set the arm up and she plays :yay:

I turned the volume up at the end of the record and it's pretty quiet. The speed settings need adjustment so I will have to borrow a strobocope disc.
The original headshell is bent where the connecting collar is so that can't be used at the moment, but can be fixed.

So far so good :)

I'm sure you will enjoy the Lenco Alan.

I'm listening to mine at the moment with the loan Firebottle and it sounds sublime.

It was lovely to spend the afternoon with you. It was a shame the brewery was closed.
The firebottle is a fine piece of kit and stood above the Dino I have. Food for thought, there.
I'm also glad the Lenco is at least working quickly. I knew you'd have the skills to get it going and then get it going well. I hope you get a lot of joy out of it.
