No surprise to some, However, both Richard Hamond, and James May will not be renewing they're contract, so who will be joining him ?
Guy Martin? I'd start watching again.
Jodie Kidd? Perhaps I wouldn't.
I'd like to see James Martin (from Saturday Kitchen) join the team. He's car daft, and a good bloke to boot :)

It isn't going to work. Even with Evans at the helm - and if there is anyone who has a chance of doing it then it is him since he has the brains and the talent.
The success of the show was integral to the previous presenters. That can't be denied. Fortunately it looks like the real deal will be coming back on Netflix.
So we will have a show called 'Top Gear' that won't actually be Top Gear. And a show that will be Top Gear but won't actually be called 'Top Gear'...

I really hope Chris can pull it off, he has always succeeded in the past with everything he has turned his hand to, although up untill now the shows he has been involved with have been pretty much his own creations, taking on an already established show like Top Gear, and making it your own is going to be a difficult one.

Agreed 100% with you Anthony, he was my choice from the start, avid radio 2 listener me, :)
apart from car daft, he has a sharp wit and comes across well to a broad audience,
who he is partnered with is key too and should BBC tweak the format???. :scratch:

I think it will work with Chris Evans. Top Gear has evolved in the past and will do so again, but I reckon Evans is the only person(ality) capable of picking up the Clarkson/Wilman baton and running with it in a slightly different way. I used to think he was a tw*t but now I appreciate his cheerfulness and wit - his Radio 2 show is a really good way to start the day, and I hope that the BBC have the courage to partner him with some equivalent talent. Guy Martin would be a bit random/manic for the role, and Jodie Kidd's performance on Channel 5 was wooden to say the least, so I hope neither gets a role. Top Gear is and always will be highly scripted and impeccably produced, so the presenters need to be as much actors as petrolheads. Actually, that German woman who drove a van around the 'Ring would be good, since she has driving talent coupled with humour.
If Clarkson & Co take their show to Netflix or similar, I agree with an earlier poster that we will benefit from that, as well as the BBC version. Here's hoping that the crippling political correctness and left-leaning politics of the BBC don't kill the new Top Gear off before it's had a chance to establish itself.

Funny you should say that since Ken Loach was on just the other night complaining at the BBC's 'right wing bias' in the recent general election...
Evans and Clarkson apparantly are big mates so although I'd expect the humour to be a little different hopefully it won't be too 'right on'.
Agree Jodie Kidd is just terrible on the 'Classic Car Show' but then the whole thing is awful. How can you take a fascinating subject like vintage motors and turn it into the dullest show ever? Until I saw that I would have said it was an impossibility.

I already pay the BBC a fortune and Sky so I am not paying bloody Net Flicks or any other poxy upstart service.
Without May and Hammond this isn't Top Gear. It was Clarkson and the other two that drew me to watch, I am not big into cars but I enjoyed the humour and the dynamic.
I can't stand mr TFI so I won't be watching.

When Willman and Clarkson put together the current format, no-one had ever heard of Richard Hammond, and James May was only known as one of the more enlightened and erudite journalists writing for Car and Autocar (the tale of how he was fired from the latter is worth reading, and typical of the man). I suspect they may bring in another pair of unknown outsiders, and given the lack of suitable celebs, I hope they do.

Surely they won't have Evans and 2 sidekicks? They will have to change the format somewhat if it is to have the smallest chance of success. If they attempt to create an ersatz Top Gear it will fail badly.
Evans with a varying stable of co-presenters. Sometimes just one, sometimes a number of them. Keep it fresh and different from the old show.

Unfortunately, when you listen to Mike Brewer, what comes across is that he has loads of 'patter', but no great depth of knowledge about how cars works. I've heard him talk some right old nonsense
Edd is far more subtle and knows what he's talking about.

Chris Evans was on and said that they're going to offer the co-presenters positions to ordinary punters with a passion (and in-depth knowledge) for cars, and alternate between different people. The details for how to apply will be broadcast tomorrow on Radio 2....

I think the idea of getting ordinary people in is great, i like Edd China, but i'm just not sure Top Gear would be a good place for him.
As for Mike Brewer, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Chris Evans is' and always has been a Marmite Character, and yes, sometimes he does my Thruppenies in, but i still think that if anyone can make Top Gear continue as the success it has been for the last 10 years or so, he can.
