Large Classical Vinyl Collection...

Hi there

my friend today was telling me about his father who passed away recently.

He has left behind what sounds like a very large and very well looked after collection of classical vinyl.

From what he told me, it sounds like the man amassed thousands of records over his lifetime, all of which are apparently in superb condition and catalogued etc etc. There could possibly be as many as 10,000 if the descriptions of the amount of wall space they occupy was not exaggerated. The hi-fi system as well is apparently rather special.

So he is wondering what they should to do with them as he has no use or space for them all, and no-one else in the family is interested.

I dont think he wants to run a sideline as a classical vinyl dealer which is a shame as he would be all set to go, but I was wondering who would be good for him to approach who might actually give him a fair price for what sounds like a very valuable collection?

The whole situation is complicated somewhat by the fact that his mum and dad retired back to Barbados, and this is where the records remain. As my mate said "It's the worst place they can be, most people there only want to listen to reggae".



Any bright suggestions?

Snap. The postage costs may be pretty huge! Even if a pallet delivery via courier to the UK were provided (or to the USA or wherever) the net value of the collection to a dealer may be quite small. If they want to get rid, perhaps splitting into 20 lots and considering costs, they may get more from private collectors via Ebay. More than any dealer would likely give for them as profits would have to be accounted for.

Ditto for the kit but it would have to be very carefully packaged and a family with no interest in hifi may not consciously appreciate how well packed these things need to be. Either way, it would be a lot of cost and effort to get rid.
