Bargain of the century! It was one of the last great CDPs from the 'golden era'. It's ripe for tweaking too, as it has a wonderful transport mechanism.

Why on earth are you selling it, Shane?

Withdrawn.

@ Marco, I didn't know you had a Karik. According to Linn, mines is a Karik III. Nice CD Player.

Oh yes, back in the day, with the matching Numerik DAC - and it was one of the best CDPs I've ever had! If things had gone a little differently, it'd have been that I was using now (judiciously modded) and not the Sony :)

It depends what plans you have for the Karik, but with a few sympathetic tweaks, implemented by someone who understands digital circuitry (Tony from Coherent would be the ideal chap), it could be turned into a veritable giant killer! ;)

The Karik III NEEDS a Numerik III to partner it. When suitably matched (all the previous Karik/Numerik models changed with every batch - I've seen various insides over a few year period as proof of what I say), you won't need to worry about CD playing again Shane. I also thought a mains filter, IN THIS CASE, improved sound as well as the Brilliant supplies seemed to spray loads of sh*t back into the mains..

By the way, Linn did employ some good engineering and design staff, who seemed to know what they were doing and WEREN'T numpties at 'digital' by this time. Unlikely a third party would be able to do much to 'better' it, unless they were intimate with this design - with respect..

Completely agree, Dave. So now Shane's task is to find the required Numerik and then try and wipe that permo-smile off his chops! ;)
