Depends what you're doing - reckon the SACD-1 would win in a SACD shootout (the TEAC unable to play them so would be silent).

For CD I'd say it was down to the DAC inside each machine more than anything else.

In a erganomics, pleasure to use battle, I'd bet on the SACD-1 to win.

As a digital transport, I'd not bother with the sonics and choose the SACD-1 whatever - love the build quality, the blue sides! Bye bye TEAC! The difference between transports for me has always been a lot less than the DAC used with it.

Then again, if I wanted to be sure it will work in 10 years time with posibilities of fixing it easily... I'd go with the TEAC.

The SACD-1 must have the sexiest loading mechanism ever.

Just edited the little typo in the title, hope you don't mind. :)

Edit away. I post quite a but from my iPad which is always making errors.

The SACD-1 must have the sexiest loading mechanism ever.

It also has the most silent, zero noise mechanism for playing CDs or SACDs. why modern companies can't make silent mechanisms, particularly for SACD playback is beyond me.

As Audio Advent says buy one and the mech dies its scrap.

Sonically it edges ahead via its balanced outputs and is marginally better than an SCD777es, but like other vintage machines sells for way too much now on the S/H market.

I had an SCD777es which I swapped a number of years back and its now scrap as the transport failed.

Re CD playback I think the Teac would have the edge as all SACD players - I have heard so far - are less good at CD.

Do you think that is due to the heavy build, keeping out the noise or very good motor?

I'd say it largely depends if that SCD has ever been recapped.

Very good mechanism. Build and heavy panelling etc won't keep noise from leaking out if its bad.
