MC Cart help/choice

After buying my NAD C162 pre I read a few reviews about how good the phono stage was , the MM being as good or better than budget Phono amps and the MC stage being exceptional for a built in stage.
So this has led me to buy another T/T , a rather well looked after Systemdek XII 900 witha Rega RB250 arm.
What MC carts should I consider (£2-300) , so far I've heard and liked the Goldring Eroica LX LO.

Hi Barry,

The Eroica LX is one of my favourite budget MCs as is the Denon DL103 at around the £200 mark. If used with an RB250 I would seriously think about getting it tweaked by Audio Origami to get the best possible result from those crtridges as the eaisly out perform the stock arm.

Right, I've pulled the trigger on the Eroica LX , haven't set it up yet as I'm awaiting a new platter and I want to do the VTA at the same time.

Good MC the Eroica LX. I have one in my collection. It likes a decent SUT.

I can concur: the Goldring Eroica LX works very well in the Rega RB 250 arm. A friend of mine used such a combination; up until one of the channels of the Eroica went o/c.

Yes but it's three times the price of the Eroica, well past the OP's stated budget.

Back to the thread , I haven't played my 2M Black fronted Rega since setting up the Systemdek because I'm enjoying my new toy and I don't want it being overshadowed , just yet.

Very nice. I know that TT sounds good and the Eroica LX is very capable and suits a Rega arm well enough.

Update to this thread.
I so impressed with the Systemdek/Eroica/Nad MC stage I sold my Puresound P10 , 2M Black and Rega .
The Eroica has already been replaced by an AT33EV, nothing wrong with the Eroica but as I had extra funds decided to move up a notch or two with the cartridge.

I thought the P10 was something special and really do find it hard to believe a NAD phono stage could better it, but then I haven't compared them...

Didn't any of you lot find the Eroika cartridges rather microphonic in handling and a bit 'twangy' sounding? I never liked it, but times may have brought some design mods in recent years - my last exposure to one was fifteen years ago.

By the way, Aspergic convention puts the nuts on top and Allen head underneath, hence the recessed 'slots' in the Rega headshell to take the nuts...

Not "aspergic" at all. Rega designed the headshell so that the nuts are held in the slots with no need for a spanner to tighten. Makes install a lot easier.

The NAD MM stage was not as good as the P10 , the MC stage with the Eroica was more involving and alive to my ears.

Nuts on top look wrong in my opinion and of course the ortofon doesn't have nuts ,although I do have them there with my AT33EV.
