Hi everyone,

Since the Tannoys have taken residence in my system, these Fostex based speakers haven't seen much use.
These wonderful speakers were built by Puffin (Rob) of this very parish.
Here is the extract from Rob's original listing:

Fostex 206E in Fostex 208 Sigma Back Loaded Horn cabinet. I constructed the cabinets in 2006 from Baltic Birch Ply and they have been used almost daily since then. The units are in perfect working order. The pictures were taken shortly after completion. I was going to take some more pics, but on examination could only find a couple of scuffs and dings. I can take some if requested. The speakers are on castors as they weigh in the region of 10 stones (140lb) each. The finish is standard paint, so can be touched up easily...

and some original photos curtesy of Rob

I have owned these since April 2014, and looked after them very well. I have also used them daily for that period, and every single day they have performed outstandingly.

That's them now in my set up with some added super tweeters (not included in the sale BTW).

Now, how to describe them. Well they worked amazingly with some flea powered Nelson Pass clones. They then delivered spine chilling and delicate midrange with some 845 and 300B SET amplifiers.
If you ever wondered what Horn loaded Full range drivers can do, this is your chance, for beer money…

As the description goes, they are heavy, and obviously these are FOR COLLECTION ONLY.
I am in a tower building with 2 lifts and easy access, so hopefully not too much of a problem for anyone with an estate car or a small people's carrier.
My car is way to small to deliver, so again, THIS IS COLLECTION ONLY.

I honestly can't make any money on these, I just want them to go to a good home and being enjoyed. Rob built them with love and care, they don't really represent a financial investment, more of a sentimental one. Hence the price which is what I paid for them.

ONLY GBP 200

I am based in SW London, off the A3.

Drop me a PM if you have any questions. Cuppa and a demo for anyone seriously interested.

Thanks

You must have moved to a "dodgy" area, there is a bloke outside the window taking photos!

Good luck with the sale.

maybe you are meant to own them so they havent sold to someone else. :)

i had a pair before but only got round to buying one drive unit.
i think the one drive unit i did buy cost me £128 and this was about 5 years back.
if your into horns a very good buy.
makes me wish now i had bought the other drive unit so i would have heard them but the size was to big for my tiny living room.

I'd lay odds that there is £150.oo worth of ply in them too...then all the hours to build them...My pal has a smaller cab pair of fostex horns with the same drivers in...and they sound wonderful...no crossover..so he was able to drive them with a tiny 8 watt tube amp...a lovely pair of horns....

And you would only need a couple of good watts to drive them as well... I used 1.5w when I ran my Fostex drivers in Voigt Pipes and that was plenty..

yes, 8 Watts from my 300B gives you plenty of volume...

Francois those are some sexy looking BLH's. If I had some spare £'s I'd bite your arm off.

I love FR speakers - they have uncanny detail and imagery to them, and I've always wanted to try a Fostex Horn arrangement like this.

Hang on, what am I saying......

No everybody, these are HORRIBLE speakers - no-one should buy them.......at least not until I can get the £££ together....

Seriously, if you're even thinking about these, buy them. You'll never think about hi-fi in the same way after you've got intimate with a well made FR horn setup.

And for less than a meal at the Fat Duck...

Barry you are quite right someone should just buy these... at £200 they are a complete bargain.... I've just looked on Wilmslow Audio site and the Fostex 206E is priced at £99 each so you are getting the cabinets for free !!

The Birch ply was sourced from and cut by a builders merchants just half a mile away. For two speakers there was awful lot of pieces delivered all wrapped up on a pallet....to you sir £220 kerching!

Weekly Bump.

Quite a bit of interest so far.
Allen (Audio Al) is coming to have a listen early July.
Anybody for taste of Horn loaded full range goodness?
Honestly, this is an absolute bargain for anyone in the Single Ended world of sound (Valve or Solid State).

Just drop me a PM

Well, I do understand people's reticence considering their size, but to be honest once you have them in place, they do disappear…

anyway, yes they are still available.
