A change of plans and an alternative speaker project mean I won't be using this handy little unit. A choice of operating software is downloadable from the manufacturer's site and this offers almost limitless two way stereo configurations including equalisation which are set up via your PC. Once set up the MiniDSP retains it's profiles until you want to alter them. It is powered via its USB lead or a power adaptor can be used.

Here's Ali Tait's view on this unit (post 4): http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?36573-Open-baffle-Help-advise

Hi Ali. I just have this feeling that if I sell it, I'm then going to need it! :eyebrows:

The Mini DSP goes between the pre-amp and power amplification. You use two stereo amps (or four monoblocks etc) to drive bass sections and treble sections of a speaker separately at a crossover frequency of your choice, at what amplitude you want and with any response corrections you feel like dialing in via your PC, which is used to program the Mini DSP accordingly. Clever bit of kit!

Knowing me and my speaker tinkering habits, I my regret parting with this.

Ah, Right. Nice explanation. Yes I would think it ideal for you/Ali etc who tinker with speakers. sounds like a good buy. Maybe you'll have more interest now :)

Is this only for a two way speaker? Thanks

That's correct.

But there'd be nothing stopping you from bringing a supertweeter in with a capacitor filter though. Or using the MiniDSP to cross from bass to mid and having a separate conventional passive filter to a tweeter. And I'm sure there'd be other configurations.

These are great, I use one myself. Crossover can be changed on the fly, so it's easy to compare. Just buy another if you need more than two ways, they are not expensive.

As a note, you can buy a second and then you can use one per speaker for full 4-way active, all you have to do is download the correct plugin software (~$10 IIRC) from MiniDSP.
This is a really flexible bit of kit! :)

Yeah. Shame I didn't get to use it. Going with full range drivers now (and the Tannoys).
