Hello from North London

Looking forward to posting on here, sharing ideas, learning stuff etc. Listen to lots of different music really, so couldn't be too definitive there. But do have rotating favourites at any given time. But love talking music almost as much as listening. Currently have a Thorens TD160 in standard trim, a Arcam Delta 60 amp, a Arcam DV137 for CD/SACD and a pair if Adam Audio Artist 5 speakers. I bought the Adam speakers primarily for my digital music but have found them to be really great all round performers so hung onto them. I'm slowly planning to mod the Thorens as and when finances allow as it will be a fun thing to do. However I really enjoy my system as it is now. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions on here as I certainly have the bug for Hi-Fi. I'll post a picture or two when I get the chance.

All the best

Laurence

Welcom to AoS Laurence,

Nice system you have there. We have a number of Thorens 160 fans here, who I am sure would be interested to learn of any modification/upgrades you have in mind. Are you using the Thorens arm, and what is the cartridge?

Finally what are your tastes in music?

Enjoy the Forum

Regards
Barry

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Hi Barry - it's a standard TP-16 tonearm and I'm using a humble Dual badged AT91 cartridge which actually sounds pretty good so far but I understand it's limitations, hence wanting to upgrade that element of my setup. More questions and advice on that later. Music wise....umm well, where to start. At the moment I'm enjoying, These New Puritans, Jane Weaver, Mogwai, Earth, Sun Ra, Robert Wyatt, King Crimson, A Winged Victory For The Sullen, The Gun Club, Scott Walker........etc, etc. Like most I like a lot of stuff and try to keep an open mind. Don't really listen to the charts however.

Hi John - still plenty of people fishing in the reservoirs.

Cheers Grant - yeah I gather the 160's are really popular for tweeking. I did think of doing one of the Inspire Hi-Fi upgrades but decided I'd give it a go myself.

Hi Allen - Dagenham, spitting distance!

Cheers for now

Laurence

Sun Ra and Robert Wyatt? There aren't many of us here who like these two artists! :D

Going to see Sun Ra Arkestra next month. Sadly Robert Wyatt will unlikely play live. Just finished his biography. A very good read.

Hi Guy. Thanks
Yes a great amp for not too much money. Tell me, what's a 'recapped Delta 60?

Cheers

Yes, I have that and after reading it I intended to work my way through his post Soft Machine output recordings that I have. Still have to complete it!

Sounds a good plan to me Barry. I started doing something similar after reading 'Electric Eden' by Rob Young. Hoping to get through that sometime in 2025!

When my Arcam Delta 60 was "serviced" it had all its capacitors replaced with modern equivalents and a new ALPS volume potentiometer.

It transformed the sound and made it sound better than new (to my sound memory)... I'm very pleased with it

I see. I dont believe I'm using mine to it's potential really, having the active speakers. That may change at some point.......

I saw Robert Wyatt play at a Charlie Haden gig at the RFH about five years ago I think it was.
I've seen the Arkestra a couple of times, great great band. What night are you going to see them?
