View Full Version : For Sale: Fidelity Research FRT-3 SUT
Hi guys, I have for sale one of these in very good condition, there's a small crack on the underside that was obviousy caused by the repair (below), I bought the SUT from eBay last month from Australia for about £180 posted to me in Glasgow.
The seller appears to be a record dealer, judging by his feedback, anyway he told me that he had the SUT repaired (below) and it works flawlessly it has a by-pass switch for using with a MM cart so that you don't have to pull cables apart and it sounds very good indeed however I modified my Quad 34 Pre's MC phono module to suit the Denon 103 MC cart that I'm using and being honest there is really nothing between the MC module and the SUT which is why I'm now moving the SUT on.
I would like to re-coup what I paid for the SUT so I'm looking for £180 posted to a UK postcode or £170 picked up from me here in Glasgow, I'm also happy to post this abroad at cost.
I can also deliver this within about 50 miles from Glasgow.
Payment by BT or PPG please.
Any other questions then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Thanks
Tony
"Thanks Tony
I will post tomorrow ( thursday) . I got this about a year ago and had a few issues with it. Turned out the RCA's were wron out so to speak causing intermittant connectivity in one channel. I had a EX ABC ( Australian Broadcasting Commission) guy who does my repairs check it out and put new inputs into it..works a treat now. I upgraded to a dedicated pre-pre amp he made for....
I hope it serves you well"

You may regret selling that Tony. They aren't that easy to come by and sound extremely good.

Hi Geoff it does sound great with the Denon 103 but there's very little difference, IMO, between the FR SUT and my modified Quad 34's MC module in fact I really can't hear any diffference which is why I'm selling it on.
Cheers
Tony
Another bump another week:eek:
Open to reasonable offers on this great sounding SUT guys:cool:
Nearly 400 views and no one's interested, really?
These SUTs are excellent guys and mainly come from Japan on the SH market but this one is in the UK so no problem with customs charges etc and if your local come over to sunny Clarkston and I'll make you a nice fresh cappa on my rather excellent Expobar espresso machine:cool:
If I sell my valves I might well pop over...like nice coffee

You would be more than welcome Grant, I can deliver to you too if you do decide you want to buy mate:cool:
Tony
PS, this is on e-bay Grant.
Open to offers on this guys, it's on ebay for £180 BIN with free UK post but would let it go for less the ebay & paypal fees on here.
Friday night bump and a wee price drop to £160 posted to a UK postcode for this weekend only:)

Really surprised nobody has grabbed this. It's a versatile, high quality SUT with excellent sound quality. I've had two. They are not easy to find in the UK. A bargain at this price!

Thanks Geoff, I'm amazed too that it hasn't sold either.
I would keep it but for the fact that my Quad pre's MC board is as good IMO but I've toyed with the idea of buying a valve MM phono stage and using the SUT with that.

Could be a smart move. I know from experience that this SUT works brilliantly into a Graham Slee ERA Gold V phono stage making a beautiful sounding combination. I doubt your Quad board could match that pairing. I know it's not valve, but it sounds sublime.

I've tried a few SUTs Geoff (the usual suspects), thanks to a forum member who kindly loaned me all of his and the FRT-3 is certainly as good as all of the ones that I tried without exception.
Think if it doesn't sell then I will keep it, well I'll have to:eek:
Bump and price back up to £180 posted to a UK postcode.
Hi guys, this is on ebay with two hours to go and there are 18 watchers so if you are one of those watchers or just fancy this then I'll be more than happy to sell it here to a fellow forum member for an offer minus the ebay and paypal fees which are about 14% I believe.
Tony
alas i got detoured Tony and have bid on a set of speaks... still i have my imfs on sale at moment

No worries Grant, I suspect it will be for sale for a wee while yet judging by the amount of time that the three other ones from the Far East have been on sale.
surprised the imfs have not been snapped up tbh...pretty rare things but guess the financial climate aint good

Too near the holidays mate:cool:
Price drop for the weekend guys £160 delivered to a UK post code or £160 plus postage costs abroad:)
Now sold guys subject to the usual, thanks for the interest.
Tony
Back up for sale guys due to a failed Ebay sale.
Buyer said that it was faulty which it isn't so I had to refund him per Ebay siding with the buyer.
I'm happy to listen to offers for this as I'm down £30 postage costs which I had to pay to the buyer to let him try this out and which obviously didn't suit his set up.
However it works fine with mine which is a Denon 103 MC cart on the front with the SUT going into the MM phone card of a Quad 34 Pre, sounds really good too.
Thanks
Tony
Here's an explanation of the Ebay sale for anyone interested.

You shouldn't have refunded that guy, Tony. It was his own stupid fault for not understanding properly what he bought!
Anyway, GLWTS. The FR is an excellent SUT, so someone should snap it up
Marco.

Thanks, I had no option Marco Ebay would have just refunded him from my paypal account and likely closed my account or suspended me.
I wrote the guy a stinker of an e-mail last night but I doubt that he'll ever reply.

Bastids! Totally unfair... Good job I don't sell much on there, so rarely have to encounter that side of things. I take it you negged him? Tell you what, name and shame the tosser here, and Google will pick it up and hopefully put others off dealing with him! :eyebrows:
What was his ebay account name?
Marco.

We could do with an eBay rant thread!
I can't do it 'cos they'd probably figure out it was me and I need my account.

He's never sold anything or bought anything on Ebay Marco whilst I, on the other-hand, had been trading on there since at least 1999 and have 100% positive feedback going back to 2002 however guess who Ebay sided with?
To be fair to the guy he was very polite and he did send the SUT back (at my expense) so I don't want to give the guy too much of a hard time, it's not really his fault that Ebay have a policy for shafting sellers now.
I'm not going to give him any feedback, he really doesn't deserve positive feedback so I think best to say nothing, that should tell people a thing or two.
Tony
Ok, Tony, fair enough. TBH, ebay should stay out of technical matters/buyer ignorance (i.e precisely why this particular sale went bad), which they know nothing about, and just step in when it's blatantly obvious that someone is being robbed.
Marco.

Probably wise. I've adopted the same view in the past.

Bump, no one interested in an excellent vintage SUT?
Strange. I'm sure people here must have bought SUTs and passed this one by. I compared mine to the Audio Technica AT-630, Sony MC-10 and Ortofon STM72 SUTs and the FRT-3 was far superior.

Thanks Geoff, I compared it to a load too (there's a thread somewhere) thanks to wiicrackpot (Andy) loaning me a few and The FRT-3 was easily as good as the most expensive one I tried.
Thread below for anyone interested (long).
