Hi there,
I have what seems to be a very nice example of a Systemdek IIX with Linn Basik LV X arm.
These have been given to me to move on by a couple I know in Pembrokeshire who bought it all in London at the end of the 70s. Since they moved to Wales 9 years ago t has just been sitting unused in a box, and they quite rightly think it should be being used. I have had a listen to it and it all seemed to be running fine, correct speeds etc. though I imagine anyone buying it would want to put a new belt on for a couple of quid. I have cleaned both up and quite literally swept the cobwebs out from the inside of the deck.
The deck looks really lovely - [VERY HIGH WAF ALERT!] - it comes with the original instruction sheet, and the wood finish is in fantastic condition with just a few very small marks on the left top edge that I assume is from fingernails lifting the lid up over twenty years. The arm likewise is in very good condition, but see note below. I spent half an hour polishing up the lid with Xerapol yesterday, and it looks lovely and shiny. It still has scratches which could be polished out completely with a bit more high grit wet dry/xerapol/elbow grease, but I think it looks good.
The arm is in great condition - i cleaned it up and the weight is fine and moves nicely with no rubber deterioration issues. It comes with the original 1.2m RCA cable.
SLIGHT ISSUES:
1. SYSTEMDEK
there is a small chip to the glass at the spindle hole, pictured. Of course this will always be covered by a mat, but you need to know it's there.
2. LINN BASIK LV X
i) there are marks on the pillar where the screw has secured it. This will remain hidden if used on the Systemdek, but perhaps if you have a different TT you may need to raise the arm higher?
ii) part of the head from one of the tiny bearing adjustment screws has come away. I had a chat with Jonnie at Audio Origami to see if he had a spare and he assured me that as these screws were factory set they should be left well alone and that it would have no effect on the performance of the arm. He said it was an easy fix if ever needed.
I am happy to sell them together, or seperately.
£80 for the TT, £90 for the arm or £160 for the pair seems like a fair price. I would imagine P&P would be around £15 for the TT and £5 for the arm? No idea until I do it, but I am very clubbable and just want someone to get a deal that we are both happy with and for this lovely TT to be singing again.
