Identity of Marantz CDP?

Can any of the eagle-eyed amongst you identify the Marantz CDP seen in the three photos below? Sorry for their poor quality, but they are crops from larger images. I've had a quick search on eBay, but without any luck.

If it helps, I'd date this as circa 1989-1991 and in pre-internet days (remember those) I would probably have bought it from Richer Sounds in West Croydon...

I've just had a thought... its most probably a Pioneer CDP...

I was going to say! Even though it's blurred, it looks both like it says Pioneer more than Marantz and also I don't recognise those buttons as Marantz..

Yep, a quick google images search shows Pioneers with those sloped buttons. I'm on the case..

Cheers Sam.. I did have a Marantz CDP after this, and that's what threw me! But after several long hard (going boss-eyed) looks, I could just make out the Pioneer motif and lettering. The time period is still circa 1989 to 1991, as seen by the Mike Oldfield Earth Moving promo singles from the same time period in the background :)

By the way, I found it by googling "Pioneer cd player 1989" to get a general idea of model numbers - PD 7100 came up - then lowered the number to lesser, smaller models PD4100 was a model too. Guessed that the look of that was more recent than the one in the photo and so went to http://vasiltech.narod.ru/CD-Player-DAC-Transport.htm#P the CD Player and DAC list, to find other, earlier model numbers and to google them. (and PD4050 was too low a model, too low height).

It looks pretty nice - I do like older players! Build quality was normally better back then.

Top man, thanks for that Sam... as for how it sounded, I can't really remember. All I know is that I eventually swapped it out for a Marantz CD-63 in the mid-1990's and then (excuse my language) I got drawn into an all singing all dancing JVC midi-system. That was until I got back into separates as the result of a nice little work related bonus and that allowed me to pick up an Arcam CD-72 around 1999...

I've still got a Marantz CD-63.... going strong with a bit of tlc over the years.

In fact I was listening to an old Grandaddy CD I came across just tonight and it still sounds fine.

That's ok - I do a lot of looking up hifi so is good to know what it is myself as it's a good looker. The Marantz CD63 and all it's editions was certainly a good performer.

As an aside, the Pioneer PD5050 went to a friend, as did the player after which was a Technics SL-PG490 bought from Comet. They still have the Technics, albeit, I think there is an issue with the belt...
