Not sure if anyone remembers; but, a while back (2011, amazing how time flies) I designed a plinth for one of my SL-1500MK2 turntables. (see below) This was born out of necessity, as the spring/rubber boot suspension had completely failed. Included in the objectives, was the accommodation of 12" arms. This is just about a perfect table for me EXCEPT Mike New ruined everything for me. I found his bearing to so drastically improve the performance of the 1200MK2 I installed it in, that it left me wanting where the re-plinthed 1500MK2 was concerned. I ended up putting the T3 Pro arm on that 1200MK2 leaving the 1500MK2 to gather dust even after all the work and expense. Dang you, Mike New! Dang you! :lol:
Due to the fact that the 1500MK2's motor/bearing is separate from the control PCB, it was much easier to isolate the two. The 1200MK2, as we all know, is a different story. Well, I finally got off my lazy behind, pulled out the CAD program and got it done, mostly. I will spend another few nights (maybe weeks ;) ) tweaking things. Currently, that's the only place this plinth exists; however, like the plinth for the 1500MK2, I hope to bring it to the CNC shop in a month's? time. Also, like the 1500MK2 re-plinth, the 1200MK2 re-plinth will accommodate true 12" arms (like Schick, who now makes a true 9" arm which I would love to see mated to a stock plinth 1200... I digress). Unlike the 1500MK2 re-plinth, I have added the platter recess, to somewhat preserve the Technics recessed platter look. We'll see if I measured correctly. PSU and all controls will be off-board (no strobe light) for the same clean look as the 1500MK2 re-plinth and so will look pretty much identical.
Seeing it in CAD 3D is pretty exciting. I still have to decide on materials and finish (perhaps a nice stain this time instead of paint). When I have it in the flesh, you chaps will be the first (well, second or third, really) to see it.
