Having ridden on some of those roads (plus a few other NI race routes) even at vaguely legal speeds (ahem) on a superbike, I'd say that it takes a pretty brave person to do what they do. Main difference to races like the TT is that some of the roads are narrower and more bumpy yet they're doing similar speeds (up to 190mph). I've done the TT course myself (average over 100mph but my wheezy old ride would only tackle the mountain climb at around 160mph) but I think I'd draw the line at most of the NI road races. You really need a wheelbarrow to carry the cajones needed for that.:mental:

That is astonishing. What an amazing rush it must be to have a dice at those sorts of speeds on roads like that. I can't even imagine the mentality required to attempt that, but then I'm not a biker and am just a car-driving wuss :)

In my biking days (youth) I'd probably have had the balls/idiocy to tackle something like that - not now though, no way....

It was scary enough recently, in the Brabby, racing an M5 Beemer, late at night on an empty stretch of the M8 (on the way back from Struth's), where we reached, shall we say, a rather 'botty-clenching speed', and edged past the M5, before both of us gave up, smiled and waved to each other, before going off in different directions.

Snapper was with me, and I think nearly had a little 'accident' in his jeans! :D

Not quite true: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_Germany, and the German traffic police can fine you if they think you are driving too fast. Beware!

I intend only to 'floor it' on the 40% of autobahns that feature neither of the above restrictions - and only if prevailing traffic and weather conditions allow (I wouldn't dream of driving that way on normal roads)... Ideally, however, I'd like to take the Brabster round a race track!

Replacement armco: €31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height)
Removing damaged armco posts: €5.10 each
Replacing armco post: €39 each
Safety car attendance: €82 per 30 mins (car + 2 people)
Circuit closure: €1,350 per hour
Recovery truck: €250 (inc VAT)
Hospital stay & air ambulance: Let's just say, do NOT go there without travel insurance! (Though a European Health Card - which replaced the E111 - may cover the hospital bit.)
Everything except the recovery truck is then subject to 19% VAT.
