Denon DRM44HX cassette deck

OK, having had a long hard think I'm not going down the cassette route - it's just not going to work for me. So I'm moving on my Denon cassette deck, it's in excellent cosmetic condition (and mechanical too) and plays really well, though I've only run a couple of good tapes through it.

It's a 3 head model in Black, Dolby B,C & HXPro. Usual bells and whistles - a nicely engineered deck.

I paid £40 for it just a few weeks ago. I'd like to get that back, cos it means I'll be able to buy one of Mike Homars' digital cables to go with the StanDac I plan to buy. Postage at cost but I expect no more than a tenner. If you want 5 TDK MA tapes (just bought from Twelvebears here) then £30 extra (wot it cost me).

I have a friend who used to have one of these. I was very impressed at it's performance and I remember being suprised at the weight of the thing.

I'd say that at the price Jason's asking it'd be an excellent buy.

That's bloomin' cheap. I still have a 33HX sitting around somewhere.

The one thing that will affect performance (apart from the usual) is that the springs which pull the head-block up into the "play" position can weaken and this causes excessive wow. I don't know if Denon still have the spares but it would be a good idea to download the service manual and obtain some. I don't think they're that difficult to replace as long as you can get the front panel off..

Apart from that, not Nak compatible due to the very different treble eq on playback I found (and therefore record) but an excellent deck in its day for mid-quality cassette systems, selling for around half that of a Naka BX300 IIRC..
