Hi. Have been advised that I could control volume from my 845 amplifier through a DAC. Would like to hear of any Dac,s that would suit. Thank you.

dCS Elgar
Audiolab 8200 CDQ
Audiolab MDAC
M2Tech young DSD

There are many others but these are the ones that I've personal experience of.
If you only use digital sources the Elgar is exceptional.
If you also use analogue sources the 8200CDQ is very versatile.

The Beresford Caiman II, and the Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 and the new Cambridge Audio Azure 851N would also do the job. Again, these are ones that I've used so I know they work.

This is my current Dac/Pre. I think it is quite rare in this country and is sold direct by Emotiva off their web site. The Dac itself has a fixed or variable output with gain. One nice feature is that the volume control is not digital so info shouldn't be lost at low levels. It will take coax, balanced 110 ohm and analogue inputs and single ended and balanced outputs and is very well made. Price is good as it is sold direct. I had an Audiolab M Dac which I didn't like very much and I am pleased with the Emotiva product.

i guess in theory every DAC that has volume control could do it. the list is endless. what amp and speakers are you using?

But a lot of the volume controls are poorly implemented esp at the budget end of the market.

Thanks for the suggestions. Am using Dared VP845 amp with Triangle Quartet speakers.

well that sounds like it could be a fun combination. what kind of music do you listen to and how much do you want tio spend? 1500-2000 EUR?
the m2tech young has some good reviews, the exogal comet is a new player. and the nad m51 is not new but supposed to be pretty good.
