Castle Acoustic Speakers 3QV2/8 Model: Avon Serial No. 1109R
Attached 4 pictures. These we are not sure whether they work? The felt (4th pic) has come away from both and although I'm not that technically au fait with tweeters, sub woofers and mid -ranges (I wouldn't recognise one if I was attacked by one) I am keen to learn. It has been suggested that these are 'knackered' and someone like Wilmslow Audio can replace pieces or replace the speakers. I've a feeling that could prove a very expensive option for me especially hailing from Wilmslow! Basically, can they be repaired cost effectively, anywhere near Preston OR could someone suggest a sensible, practical pair of speakers reasonably priced that I could pick up from say E-Bay? Ideally I'd like to re-felt/repair these but I'm a realist. Next Tier 1. Thanks Tony

Foam as used in 1970's speaker 'frets' crumbled away years ago and many speaker cone surrounds also used a variant of the stuff, which lasts far less than twenty years on average. There are a few good restorers if you didn't want to do this repair yourself. I used Wembley Loudspeakers, who did a great job but weren't the best at communicating until the repairs were done.

Another interesting restorer, who has a batch of what looks like ATC drivers (or possibly the clone that PMC have made) on the bench -

I don't know how Castle are fixed up these days (are they Chinese now?), but they used to make their own drivers years ago.
