JRiver | Bitrates correctly shown?

Dear all,

i downloaded JRiver Media Center for my Win 7 notebook and tried some testfiles from the 2L website.

What puzzles me is the fact that the bitrate for DXD (352,8) is only shown as 176,4. Also SACD *iso files (in DSD64) are shown as 176,4 while DSD64/128 files in dsf/dff are shown properly.

If i play the files via foobar all bitrates are correctly shown.

So is this "down conversion" on purpose in JRiver or do i need to change something in the settings?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Shouldn't be doing this, sounds like your Output Format settings are set to downsample.
Check that first.

Does it happen with every dsd or ISO file?

Ok..will have a look at that this evening.
This down conversion only occurs with the DXD and Sacd iso files and with DSD 256.
My Dac doesn't support that (DSD256) yet and those files won't be played in foobar while it will in JRiver but aus 176,4.?!?!

The last three bitrates in the output format section were set to 176,4.
After i set them to "no change" the original bitrates are shown.

But do you have any clue why they are set by default at 176,4?

Good question.
The Jriver guys have made an assumption that most people's Dacs can't go higher than 176, and even that not everyone can play back DSD files.
So there's a default setting for highest compatibility.
There's a bunch of default settings I always go in and change when I do a Jriver install, Output format is the main one as you need to tune it to your Dac and what it can do.

Do you use digital volume?
I always set the volume control to disabled and use the volume on my Pre.
Jriver has the best digital volume in the business (64bit) but I still prefer it disabled.

Check your bit streaming settings too. Does your Dac do native DSD?
Jriver may be converting to PCM without needing to.

Honestly I haven´t digged to deep in JRiver so far and probably won´t do that.

But I have an issue with my DAC that a song, once in DXD and once in DSD, is played at a different volume via foobar.
It seems that this was - or better - is related to foobar since the same two songs are played at the same volume via JRiver.

But usually I won´t connect my notebook to my DAC. This was just for testing purpose.
My normal use case is: flacs stored on a NAS => SBT => Integrated => speakers.......BINGO ;-)

I was just curious wrt the DSD "sounds" but honestly I couldn´t hear a difference compared to 24/192. Deaf man ;-)
