I foolishly got rid of all my vinyl gear about three years ago, and I miss it.

So now I'm Looking to retrace that step, but I can't believe how prices have gone up in the interim

I paid £50 for my mint Thorens TD150 a couple of years back, and am wondering what i can get for around that price today....?

I'm in the Maidenhead area, for collection purposes, but courier is also fine.

Can anyone help?

Best of luck Barry. As you've seen, good turntables at low prices are very hard to find now. Hopefully somebody here may be able to help. :)

If you buy a 112 or 115, make sure that the base board (hardboard) is flat. They can tend to warp and touch the bottom of the suspended sub-chassis which means the platter and arm don't sit right and you get vibration transmitted.
Roy is right though - they do sound decent for the money with something like a Shure M75.
I very much doubt you'll get that one for £50 though - more like £75-100. Looks in good order.

I reckon the Pioneer is a good starting point. I've had a PL112D for a couple of years and, whilst the sound might not be the very top, it's a good solid and reliable record player. The arm is not bad either, mine had the usual Shure M75ED in it it tracked very securely - I say tracked as I've sold it now, I'm beginning to sink under turntables. There is a 112D for sale here with a BIN price of €199:eek:. You lot don't know how lucky you are pricewise, second hand goods here cost a fortune.

An alternative is one of the lightweight linear trackers such as the JVC L-E22 I have. Surprisingly good sound and seem to be cheap as chips, if you can find one. I think Pioneer, Sony and Technics all did similar models.

I 'good' deck is going to cost considerably more of course, hundreds rather than tens of pounds.

How about a Rega 2 with an RB250 for £140? Collect or post at cost.

Hi, I have a Sony ps-lx100, boxed in mint condition, had very little use over the years, £40
or a Technics sl-bd22d, in excellent condition, not used often £50.
I would say I live about 30mins drive away from yourself, so if you wanted, you would be most welcome to come and have a listen. Ialso have a Thorens td-150, in near mint condition for£150 if you wanted to spend a bit more.

Depends where you look I'd have thought. This one was buy it now for £30 last week: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thorens-TD150-Mk-II-Turntable-/271858908029 so there are still people getting rid of good decks left right and centre... just not on ebay as auction listings for people to obsess and get into bidding wars about.

Plus this is one of the "boredom times of the year" - wait till people have spent on their summer holidays or are out on their holidays or drunk in the sun forgetting about ebay..

Paul that's a very tempting offer - and had I not just forked out £700 on a flight to visit my Dad, you would be missing an arm right now.... :steam: :steam:
Thanks anyway
Barry

Thanks Andy. I have a few other options I'm looking at at the moment, but if nothing comes of them I'll give you a shout by PM.
Thanks for the offers.

Hi Barry, no worries, but for the price the Technics and Sony are both great turntables.
