I have a Luxman L-435 amp with a function direct button. No manual no idea what it does apart from turn a LED on the volume knob from green to blue.

It is not a tone defeat - there is a separate button for that.

Does anyone actually know for sure what it does?

Curious... I have wondered for ages.

It's something to do with the TT input I think. It's also known as Phono Direct Function.

Apart from that, I no nothing else s don't quote me on it... just what I heard yonks ago.

Hm... it does have a really good MM/MC stage in it... so maybe Jo but the button is nowhere near the MM/MC selector switch - it looks more generically positioned.

It's called an 'Function Straight' button, it directly lets you choose a selected input {input selector} when pressed.. It basically bypasses the filters..

Actually you are right it does say "function straight".

So far it seems to do all sorts... plot thickens... someone will provide a description that makes sense sooner or later.... maybe:)

Ah OK I think you mean the button filters not tone controls. That would make sense I guess. But the input selector bit? I'm lost.

pushing the switch allows direct connection of the signals selected by the input selector. with the switch turned on the subsonic filter, high cut filter, and mode selector are bypassed and disabled.

From what I remember from my repair days that control bypassed all the filters, tone controls, and selectors in the phono signal path. Only the volume control and balance control were functioning in that mode.
