I am a complete novice at this so will more than likely be seeking advice rather than giving! I gave up on vinyl some 30 years ago when I was bought my first CD player! However, I listen to a lot of extreme metal, much of which is now being released in gatefold sleeve double albums 2 x 180g vinyl so I thought I'd start looking at vinyl again. I bought a system off a lady in Lincoln who was very nice and appeared genuine.Her husband had a new system and was selling off his old one all in original boxes complete with manuals. She said she tried them all individually by plugging in seeing them light up and testing the turntable to see if it worked, the cassette deck etc. However, she had no idea how they linked together and for £50 I thought I'd give it a go ......get a new stylus, the speaker felt needs replacing and find out what true officianados recommended I do. However, it hasn't worked out quite so simply. Neither I nor my wife have been able to link the system so I wonder if anyone can help/advise. I have lots more information and photos but essentially this is the scenario (and I've now got a budding collection of vinyl I haven't been able to test yet!!!)
I want to link together a Dual CS515 Belt Drive Semi -Automatic ULM Auto Return Record Player with a TEAC V-66C Stereo Cassette Deck, TEAC A707 DC Slimline Integrated Stereo Amplifier and a TEAC T707 Slimline Quartz locked PLL Digital Synthesizer AM/FM Stereo Tuner along with some Castle Acoustics Speakers 3QV2/8 Model - Avon, Serial No. 1109R. There are 3 pairs of red and white leads which presumably link all the TEAC equipment but I have no idea what is required to link the record player to this and the speakers.

From what I have briefly read from a Google search, your Teac amp has a phono input.
You need to connect the Dual turntable to this.

Your system should be connected up as follows:

[1] Use the attached turntable leads to connect the turntable to the 'DISC' (or 'PHONO') input at the back of the amplifier. Plug the red plug into the red socket and the white plug into the white socket of the amplifier.

[2] Use the one of the red/white leads to connect the cassette output to the 'TAPE' input on the back of the amplifier. Again match the red and white plugs to the corresponding coloured sockets on the amplifier.

[3] Use the second of the red/white leads to connect the cassette input to the 'TAPE' (or 'RECORD') output on the back of the amplifier. Match the colour of the plugs to sockets as in [2].

[4] Use the third of the red/white leads to connect the output of the tuner to the 'TUNER' (or 'RADIO') input on the back of the amplifier. Match the colour of the plugs to sockets as in [2].

[5] The speakers are connected to the speaker terminals of the amplifier using suitable lengths of 2-core mains cable. You will need to strip the ends of the cable and connect the brown wire of one cable to the red terminal of the speaker and the red terminal on the amplifier. Do the same with the blue wire of the cable, connecting the black terminal of the speakers to the black terminal on the amplifier. The amplifier may use spring loaded connections or it may have sockets. If the latter you will have to fit 4mm dia plugs to the cable. Do the same with the second cable. Arrange matters so that the left-hand speaker is connected to the amplifier speaker terminals marked 'LEFT'. Likewise the right-hand speaker is connected to the amplifier speaker terminals marked 'RIGHT'.

Hi Tony. Welcome to AOS.

Sounds like a bit of a pickle you have there. It should be easy enough to sort out.

Show us a photo of the plug/plugs on the turntable signal lead (not the mains lead). It may be RCA phono or five pin DIN depending on the age of the Dual unit.

The rest of the gear connects with RCA phono leads apart from the speakers, which require bare wire connection to the spring loaded amplifier terminals and you can also use bare wire connections at the speaker end, or fit what are called 'banana' plugs to fit the speaker sockets.

NOTE: When using bare wire, be very careful not to allow any wires to touch each other, as this may cause a short circuit damaging the amplifier.

Hopefully it will all be in working order. You did well for £50, it should sound pretty decent.

OK Guys....help and advice much appreciated. As previously mentioned I bought a 1984 Dual/TEAC/Castle system to get me up and running. One of you lovely people said for £50 it was a great deal? However, as a novice trying to get back into vinyl , I'm guessing I'm gonna have to spend more to get it up and running? PLUS I'm on a tight budget (who isn't?). Any way I'm gonna ask you guys anyway. The system I have stacked. Tier 1 - Dual CS515 Belt Drive Semi -Automatic ULM Auto Return with a DN165E stylus; Tier 2 - TEAC T707 Slimline Quartz locked PLL Digital Synthesizer AM/FM Stereo Tuner; Tier 3 - TEAC A707 DC Slimline Integrated Stereo Amplifier and a TEAC V-66C Stereo Cassette Deck and 2 (not looking in great condition Castle Acoustics Speakers 3QV2/8 Model - Avon, Serial No. 1109R. All came in original packaging with manuals, all plug in and light up etc. They came with 3 sets of red and white leads which have already been a topic of discussion thanks!! Attached 4 pictures. These we are not sure whether they work? The felt (4th pic) has come away from both and although I'm not that technically au fait with tweeters, sub woofers and mid -ranges (I wouldn't recognise one if I was attacked by one) I am keen to learn. It has been suggested that these are 'knackered' and someone like Wilmslow Audio can replace pieces or replace the speakers. I've a feeling that could prove a very expensive option for me especially hailing from Wilmslow! Basically, can they be repaired cost effectively, anywhere near Preston OR could someone suggest a sensible,practical pair of speakers reasonably priced that I could pick up from say E-Bay? Ideally I'd like to re-felt/repair these but I'm a realist. Next Tier 1. Thanks Tony

1000 apologies for misleading any of you. It is a CS515 (not 151!!). I'm not sure, but I'm guessing, the main things to look at/replace would be the stylus (a cert?) and possibly the belt drive? Your thoughts? I'm told on E-Bay new Ortofan DN165E stylus ' are common to come by and retail for about £15-20? Would that be correct? Also, one of the original conversations in the thread mentioned about connecting the record player to the speakers so I have now pictured the input connector (is that correct terminology? It has an FM calibration oscillator built in and 6 FM/AM station pre-set memory and direct call system according to the manual included. It comes in its original box.
Dimensions are listed as 432 x 72 x 289mm [17" x 3" x 11.5"] and weight as 3.7kg
It has been plugged in and lights up. I'm not sure if there is anything I should do with regards to 'refurbishing' this? Any recommendations? Cheers Tony....tier 3 next and then I'm done...at your mercy guys!

The TEAC A707 DC Slimline Integrated Stereo Amplifier with LINE/MIC mixing capability and Tuner/Aux/Tape frequency response according to the owner’s manual enclosed! It comes in its original box and its dimensions are 432 x 72 x 298mm [17"x 3" x 12"] and it weighs 7Kg. I have plugged it on and it lights up.The TEAC V-66C Stereo Cassette Deck in its original packing with its original manual & Information supplement. It has a Dolby Noise Reduction System & metal tape facility
The track system is listed as 4-track, 2 channel stereo, 2 heads, erase and record/playback
Dimensions listed as 432 x 103 x 263mm [17 x 4 x 10.5"] weight 6kg.
I have plugged it in and lights come on, and tried the cassette deck which opens/closes. Probably a damned stupid question but where do the red and white leads go from the tape into the amplifier....tape 2 or tape 3 in the photo?
Again unsure what if anything other than lay my hands on some iso propyl alcohol and cotton buds t clean the tape heads? Recommendations please guys OR is there a better method these days? An effective cassette head cleaner? Thanks for your help and patience guys! Thankyou Tony
