This on the 'Bay at the moment - bargain or not?

I know very little about Rocksan, other than its products normally have a high price tag.

he has failed to sell it at 350 or best offer and has dropped it to 320 now. figure it may just be about right now. try him with 300 and see... decent cart in it that originally sold for over 200. nothing wrong with an rb250 either.

No, I wasn't planning to buy it, Grant...just surprised that anything with a Rocksan badge was so cheap.

Its a mk1 Radius, the newer design is clear acrylic now.

It dates from the early 90s, was originally about £400 ish without arm and the Roksan Tabrzi was the original arm of choice, though Rega or Moth 250 was the other options.

Somewhat fiddly to set up, like all Roksan turntables.

More here http://www.vinylengine.com/library/roksan/radius.shtml

If the respray was done well then yes its an improvement on the original slightly textured grey paint finish.

At the price, its a reasonable buy if everything is working ok.

The newer Radius comes in both acrylic and wood, I've owned a mk5 radius in wood with a Tabriz and a mk5.1 in clear acrylic with nima

The radius 5.1 in acrylic with Nima is a fantastic TT and is much much better than the mk5. I would assume that the mk3 is pretty crap given the scale of improvement from mk5 to mk5.1

Thought the mk1 radius was the horrible grey one and the mk3 was piano black though?

The best Roksan bargain is the Xerxes 1, I paid £400 for mine and IMHO it beats the equivalent LP12 hands down.

I'd love to buy a Xerxes 20 or 20+ but they go for upwards of £2000

Only time in my life I have nearly smashed a turntable in frustration over set up issues is a Roksan xerxes model 20, putting the adjusting screws under the platter for levelling is a right pain in the ass, as is being able to adjust the level of the bearing.

Early xerxes have one major, serious issue plinth sag, which is a very common problem.

If someone offered me a Xerxes foc right now, I would pass on it, way too much hassle.
