Ah well, there is a good reason for such a name in Japanese you see. Its a shortening of Nobu, which is a popular boy's name and means 'enduring' so quite relevant I guess.

Someone could have done a bit of research for the English market perhaps:eyebrows:

I think that's actually very clever marketing - nobody was ever going to forget the company name after hearing it just once!

I just bought a case from Douk. Some of their stock is in the UK, so avoiding postage and import charges.

I rather like this case, but the Krell logo is dishonest. It would make me suspicious of any of their other claims.

What can sound innocuous in one language can sound embarrassing in another. The above cited "Schiit" is one, so to is the electrical white goods manufacturer "SMEG".

There are many words and names in Thai which pronounced correctly sound rude to English speakers, and the same is true for other languages, such as Indian where Anal is a popular boys name and Deepshit is a not uncommon family name. Probably the most embarassing name to an english speaker is the Dutch name Kundt. The "d" is silent, so it is correctly pronounced as "Cunt".

There used to be a British company that made electrical test equipment: Wayne - Kerr. The company was named after two film actors that the company owner liked: John Wayne and Deborah Kerr. However after the company changed hands, its name was changed as it was thought Wayne - Kerr sounded too much like "wanker".

Clearly one has to be careful when choosing a name for an international market, but to snigger at a potential embarrassing name is a bit infantile in my opinion.

To be fair Krell did rip their name off from the real Krell from Forbidden Planet. Okay so the Krell are not around to sue having been the cause of their own extinction but there is still a moral case to be answered IMO...
