Ive decided to restore my old Thorens deck. I need a semi decent cheap as chips tonearm to fit a SME tonearm board.

Thanks

THANKS!

I was going to bid on that... are you going to try for it, Andy?

Bidding has finished - it went for £76 (which IMO is overpriced). You will be better off with a TP16: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THORENS-TP-16-TONEARM/351374059420?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3Db0646dd56ff4478c911 400cd4938cf2f%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D9%26 sd%3D221749979949, a better tone arm and cheaper too.

Unfortunately you'll probably have to pay about the same again for a headshell for it.

I think the point was to have an arm on a TD150 board.

That old tonearm is fine for modern cartridges. The bearings aren't the finest but the mass of the arm beam, shell and counterweights will prevent rattles and there's nothing really wrong with the sleeved horizontal bearing as long as it's very lightly lubricated and free running back and forth. The arm works with the ancient Linn K9, so should be great for the Sumiko Pearl (modern day A&R E77/Rega R100 in slightly different clothes), Shure 97XE with damper in use and I'm sure the DL110 would work fine as well as well as the Ortofon replacement for the 520 (VM Blue?). A blob of blue-tac in the void between cartridge top and shell would be useful too as long as the overall balanced mass isn't too great.
