Sanyo TP-880 Turntable - Remote Control!

OK - so this one is going to be of interest for technical / historic curiosity rather than it's audiophile properties (although it doesn't sound bad) but thought I'd try it on here.

Sanyo TP-880 Direct Drive, Micro processor controlled turntable with original infra red remote control!

Works fine as a manual deck but the automatic functions are not working. Electronic cueing works but the arm return doesn't unless you press reject and then it moves very slowly and can stall the platter. If it does make it back then it doesn't switch off so I think the arm position sensing is not working.
If there is no interest as it, I'll strip it, try to fix and sell for more money but I have limited time so would prefer to sell as it is.

Comes with original Sanyo cartridge and stylus. No idea on hours but sounds OK.

Cosmetically not bad but needs a clean up. Lid is sound and hinges good but numerous small scratches.

Original remote control supplied and working fine.

Anyone got £50 for it as it is? Needs collecting from Bicester (M40 J9).

IF I THOUGHT I COULD GET THAT REMOTE TO WORK ON MY TD-150 I WOULD HAVE THIS LIKE A SHOT.....

Cue, Reject and Play (Music Select).

The last function doesn't work (or I don't know how to use it) and Reject is a bit dodgy as per description. The remote is fine as the turntable receives the command. There is an led display to tell you what function it's failing to perform.

I used to have one of those, albeit without the remote control.

The arm movement is powered by a seperate motor with a small belt drive. I replaced the belt whilst I had the bottom off to adjust the suspension but the driven pulley was a bit stiff which is probably causing the issue. You can hear the motor whirring away but it must be slipping.
A strip and clean might sort it.

A quick update. I've had it to bits and cleaned up the arm drive including re-lubing the pulley spindle etc. Arm now returns nice and quickly when you press reject but the arm position sensing still does not seem to be working. It looks like this is done with little photo electric cells looking at a plate. They are lit up but the controller doesn't register either when the arm reaches the end of the record, or (if you press reject) when the arm has reached home.
Come on - someone must fancy an electronic challenge!

many tts of this vintage employ small o section belts to drive the various auto functions.
I recently repaired a technics full auto deck based on the sl1200 and a kenwood deck which looked like a cheaper technics sl10.

both of these had sluggish arm cue and return and were fixed with belts salvaged from computer cd rom drives...a strangely perfect match!!!

I understand MAPLIN stock a selection of these belts in various sizes...a suck it and see approach may be needed.

Thanks but the mechanical side of it now seems to be fine. Just the controller isn't recognising the position of the arm.
