View Full Version : Looking for a Copy of.............

The Grand Wazoo
07-09-2009, 22:41
There are some threads with people selling stuff, so why not a 'wants' list?

To start off, I'm looking for a copy of 'Snake Rattle and Roll' by Crawler, the band that carried on after Paul Kossoff died. Had a copy once, God knows where it is now.

Also looking for Jonathan Kelly's Outside - 'Waiting on You' 1974 album with Chaz Jankel & Snowy White. Had a copy of that once too!

So.........has anyone got a copy of either (or both!!) of these taking up valuable space in their shelves?
I'd like to talk if you have...........

Cheers

I went to school with Paul Kossoff. He was in my class. He still has some records of mine!

Don't think there is much chance of getting them back!!

I'm looking for a few things on vinyl. In good nick of course - and they do tend to be a bit pricey - for some reason they aren't that common.

Boards Of Canada -

Music Has The Right to Children LP, 1998
Geogaddi LP, 2000
A Beautiful Place In The Country 12", 2000
Peel Sessions 12", 1999

I've got them all on first issue CD, but really want them on vinyl. Especially the first 3... 'Beautiful Place' is one of my all-time favourite releases by any band...

Cheaper with Amazon Marketplace - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00004SALH/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new - I've used Moviemars-USA several times, with no problems - £11.83 + £1.24 p&p (can't vouch for the cheaper ones, though, but Marketplace is usually ok.)

Hmmm, I'm fairly sure that the SACD version is the same as the original LP release, at least according to the track list at wiki here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Secret_Wish).

The mix of track 1 is different, as are some others, and it's a shorter version of Dr Mabuse, although the original cd version contains Last Word/Strength To Dream within it, so....... who knows?

Cheers.

If you guys are interested i'll soon be able to rip from vinyl to my Traxdata CD recorder (read Philips). I have virtually every Propaganda release out there including a lot of different 12" & 7" versions of the same tracks. seeing as i'll want to actually transfer stuff to CD myself to preserve the records i'd only be too happy to sort you guys out for the cost of postage & discs. Once i have my own copies it'll be a PC job at 4x speed maximum with fast discs.

Let me know if you are interested, though i won't be able to do this until i have built my phono stage & installed the Audio Research MP1. For some unknown reason when i have the Traxdata connected to the tape outs on my Classe DR5 it smears the CD playback  So it's not connected any longer...

I am looking for an album that I am sure was called Survival, and was made by Simon & Garfunkel. The cover depicted a few people dressed in leotard and hurdled together in a cave or something.
I had this album in the early 70's and it was bought in the West Indies. Unfortunately I am not sure if my recollection of the artists is correct. I have not been able to find any mention of it on the net.
The confusing thing is that there have been various albums called Survival from different artists, which has made my search even more difficult.
Anyone who can help me out?

I've been listening to Patti Page's Tennessee Waltz a lot recently. It was included in the Zabrikie Point soundtrack, to invoke an old-timey romantic feel, and the production is fantastic. I don't know if anyone more familiar with her work knows of any others by her with the same production style?

I've amended my post.

The album was called 'To Know A Man' - the track I'm looking for was called 'Second Fiddle Man'. It was written by Bushy Head, who also recorded under the name of Johnny Walker. Actually, I don't think it did go like that Barry. I think Elmore James' repertoire for guitar riffs was a bit bigger than Jeremy Spencer's!

Why not send your vinyl copy to one of our members who has a soundcard and a decent T/T, and get them to record the album onto CD for you, which you can then rip onto your music server?

Well, I've spent hours trawling around trying to find a copy of this CD for my friend.
I took a closer look at the high priced ones available to see what was so special about them. It seems that they're all Japanese imports. So I trotted off down the information superbridleway to Japan to see if I could do my own little import job and save Paula a few pennies. Every single copy I found available in Japan was even more expensive. Why's that, I wondered.
Because they're all US imports, that's why!

So I trotted off back down the jolly old wwwdots to the US of A.
I discovered that there are plenty of copies of this album available in the States, but they're all pretty pricey.................

Why's that then?

I'll tell you why...........

.............they were all Japanese imports.

So how does that work then?
And who's ripping who off?
And isn't there an easier & cheaper way of doing this?

T'aint gonna work me ol' mucker!
I've already suggested that there are several ways of doing this, including your option, Marco. However, computer files are not an option and a CD copy is out of the question as well, because her CD player won't play them. She also wants to replace her much loved vinyl copy with a 'proper' CD release - the artwork & sleeve notes are important to her.

Gotcha, dude, although you could probably download the artwork and sleeve notes from somewhere, print them off, then attach them to a copy CD...

However, a 'proper' CD would of course be better. I'll ask next time I'm in Grey & Pink in Chester - they've got some pretty rare ones in there

I am only interested in original cassette releases, not copies. Original releases had generic tape shells, with printed labels.

Any offers considered!

Thanks Andr'e. I had a few GAS tapes from back in the day but I'm not sure where they are now! Have you checked the Planet Gong website? They have a good shop there which might have what you're after.

The original tapes are cooler than any file downloads or CDr rereleases though!

All - my tip, probably seen before, is www.secondspin.com. It's a US based second hand CD merchant ... Has a good turnover and I have snagged some bargains - not necessarily rare tho...
Have good rates for UK post - regular offers by email and excellent with any issues (refunded no question when I had a skipping CD)

Keep orders small and you are guaranteed no tax!!

Won't be selling mine. Great album and mystery why Universal don't reissue this. So far only 4 track Demos got a reissue on their Back to Black series. Frankly they should reissue the entire PJ catalogue. Cheapest asking price is £76. People now seeing vinyl as some sort of easy cash resource. I can't see these selling quickly. I have quite a lot of limited vinyl from the last decade that now is priced at silly money. Must have been several thousand pressed of these so these prices are not justified.

Anyone got the Queen LP Innundo in at least vg nick??

The original cut is on thin vinyl and have purchased a couple copies that would be regarded VG condition. Both had issues partly due to mistreatment I suspect. Since it is a digital recording I suggest buying the UK 180g remastered reissue from a couple years ago. Sounds as good to me. Should still be some new around and no more expensive than the scarce original.

This is a real challenge. I have been looking for a stereo copy of this for 3 years now. Why would anyone be looking for a piece of crap like that? Because it is a great record and probably the finest piece of stereo recording I have ever heard - fabulous.
I have heard it 3 times in the SME Music Room. Just to put it into perspective how good it is, Cameron Robertson-Aikman always uses as the final piece he plays in his demos in the music room.

IIt was also one of Ken Kesslers "Records to Die For" in Stereophile in 1991

What do I know about it?

It was recorded in stereo by Columbia in 1961. It was released in Mono by Columbia. I have checked with Abbey Road and I know that it was mastered for release in stereo but not whether it was actually released. In those days records were often release in mono and if they sold well a stereo release may have followed. (mono records generally outsold stereo by 10:1)

The copy I heard was not an EMI copy but a re-issue on C5 Records - a division of See for Miles Records (EMI confirmed that the tapes were accessed in 1989 for this release)

I would like to obtain a stereo copy and i am happy to pay a good price. Any stereo copy in good nick. Over to you guys. Can anyone help?

I finally recall a record that I can't seem to find anywhere. A year ago, I came across this photo showcasing the beautiful Shindo Aurieges MM phono preamp, and one of the many elements that caught my eye about this picture was the Ellington record.

http://pitchperfectaudio.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/aurieges-phono.jpg

"Masterpieces by Ellington".. such a wonderful record. I managed to find that the album is available for streaming on Spotify. After so many listens, I fell in love with this album and wanted to purchase it on vinyl. However, to my dismay, the record is no longer being produced. One of the few records, if not the only, on my wish list for sure..

There's a few here on international eBay Andr'e. Don't know whether they'd meet your requirements though.

It's not actually an album I've heard. Any good?

The Barbarian

Yeh they sit on em cos they are expensive, pretty much anything on OHR carries a tag.. 'Electronic Meditation' was a ground breaking LP at the time, don't expect synthesizers, Sequencers etc.. Klaus Schulze was a member at the time, the only TD album he was on.
