View Full Version : The Lentek integrated amp
Does anyone know much about this amplifier?
I bought one, a minter, and it sounds absolutely superb but I did take a punt on an amplifier I know very little about. It seems built to a very high level, weighs a ton and has a fully adjustable built in MM and MC phono stage.

I always fancied trying one of these. Then I found out the people behind its design were also involved in the original Audiolab 8000A and I lost interest...:D

I can understand that reaction having used an 8000A, this is a very different beast.
you do see a lot of 8000's for sale...now I know why:eyebrows: never having heard one

Funny you should say that Adam. The 8000a is one of the dullest sounding amps I've used, but I heard the Lentek many years ago (not in my system I might add) and it sounded very different. Much cleaner, open and more dynamic (as I recall).

If its the 1970s Lentek integrated you are talking about I thought it was a superb amplifier and nothing like the Audiolab 8000?.
I was looking for my first decent Hifi amp in the 70s and auditioned the A&R A60, Rogers A100 and Lentek integrated, I thought the Lentek was just a little better than the A100 but also just out of my price range so I bough the Rogers A100 and It is still going strong today

Good amp that 'A100' looks great too. I know many like the matching {Not that i think it matches} 'T100' Tuner. I prefer the 'T75' tuner which does match..
I am talking about the Lentek integrated. Launched in '79 I think and only 500 made of which I think mine is number 34.
It impresses me more daily. Tremendously neutral but with great dynamics and slam. Based on sound and build I think it would be £3k if launched today.
Rogers A100 was a good amp at the time I remember and I loved the T100 too...
8000A is fine, you just need to find the right cables for it (I think we used Naim A5 and Chord Rumour from memory).
Now the Lentek... We sold these and I remember the sound being incredibly refined and restrained. Not like an 8000A, but more like a big US amp. The thing is, it featured 'clipping' or 'distortion' lights, or something akin to them, and these would come on long before the amp was in trouble, which added to the 'over polite' reputation it acquired. These days with modern sources, I suspect it would be great, with no harsh edges to the sonics.

That is very interesting tho cos i was lucky enough to use one of these Lentek's for a bit years ago. I already had a 'A100' & my trust 'A60' i prefered the 'A60' to both..maybe it's just me being an 'A60' die hard fan. All mi Quads, Ferrograph amps i loved dearly again got sold at the end of the day reverting back to my 'A60'.. It just happened again this week, a Rotel receiver i bought lasted through about 2 hours play time before i swapped back the 'A60'

Yes I agree the A60 was/is a superb amp, it just sounded a little light weight and polite besides the A100, but that wasn't a bad thing and I had a mate who had one and I listened to it regularly.
I do also have the T100 which strangely does not match the A100 the black finish has a purple tinge ??? but a nice sounding tuner never the less.
