Recessed 401 plinth schematics please!

Anyone has a schematics for a recessed 401 plinth? I really dislike when in sits on top.

I've sourced an affordable slate workshop, though they only deal with 2cm thickness. Doesn't matter, I'll make a sandwich.

A related question - I've seen pics of these Japanese systems with enormous wooden tops on the 301 platters. Given that glass or metal (copper or alu) mats already exist, has anyone seen a slate one? A 2cm slate mat would not be heavier than a 10cm wood (from the pics) and would probably ring less than either glass or metal. What kind of bearing you need for that? I have that German aftermarket one (can't remember the name but you know it;))

I worked for Loricraft Garrard when we developed the 501, we experimented with all manner of plinths and platters and found that the standard platters are best. Also, slate, granite and other high mass plinths do not work as well as ones that actively control the energy. imaging, frequency response and dynamics all suffer, we heard it and measured it.

I went bonkers trying mats out on my 301 (yeah it's a different machine) and found that the standard mat works just as well as anything. I also recommend a 3-5mm thick Achromat + a couple of platter rings which dampens the platter down nicely. This is a nice cheap option and works just as well. :cool:

Never tried my Resomat might give it a spin. Its on my 1210 at the moment!

Pros and cons for both the original mat and Reso IMO, overall I prefer the Reso and reduced static is a bonus.
