I've been lurking here for a few months. Having young children I hadn't properly listened to music for quite a while, I tried headphones on an evening but didn't like it and the wife wasn't particularly happy at my tapping and mumbling along. Anyway we have a garden room primarily used as a kids play room which since Christmas I've been setting up a small cheap system to primarily listen to what's left of my vinyl but also cd's. It's just a Dual CS 505 turntable, Marantz PM4000 amp, matching cd player and Kef Q15 speakers which cost me less than £30 but sounds pretty good to me - I've never had any high end gear so I don't know any better. However I am struggling to resist a bargain and also have been given stuff such that the play room is becoming home to various separates in various states of distress to the annoyance of my wife so one of the incentives for finally introducing myself is I have a couple of things that I'd like to give away if anyone here is interested in them which I'll post later.

Best period for me would be late 60's and 70's but I like various other stuff so Hendrix, Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Mountain, Nick Cave, Crowded House, Primal Scream, Oasis, Pixies, Mazzy Star, Puressence, U2, Television and probably lots of other bands that are not springing to mind immediately.
