These high end speakers would cost several thousands of pounds if they were made today but you can make me an offer around £300 as it is a sin that these are not being listened to regularly.

The Castle Howard was one of Castle's top loudspeakers and though these come with their own dedicated stands, they're a big mama of teak loveliness.

The cabinets are in incredible condition for the year, as are the grilles. I've just been playing 'Burning Spear' roots reggae at high volumes and I can't hear any problems with the drivers either. They image incredibly well and have a beautiful, relaxed tone. They can get down too though so boogie shoes and slippers can both apply! Apologies for the poor photos but any inspection or demonstration welcomed.

Stands are included in the price. Collection from Liverpool. New photos below, old ones removed!

I used to run mine with a Quantum Electronics '102'/'402', 2x'205' Amplification..

I don't know those amps Andr'e but I have listened to the Castles with a whole host of amps and they sound really good with most things. They don't seem an especially difficult load though I'm firmly in the land of solid state.

Lucky you. I lways fancied a nak power to go with but never seen one at a reasonable price. The ca5 is a lovely amp and has a stonking phono stage as well.

Wow, that's a coincidence. 27 years ago I used to run a pair of Howards with a Quantum pre power. A fantastic sound, I don't think the Castles take much driving.
One of my finest audio memories is dozing off to Cloudbusting on a Rega Planar in front of those Castles.

Great speakers.

Hi Geoff,

How's it going? Gorgeous speakers, mate!

I'd have them in a heartbeat, but would need to shift my Celestion 66s first (no room for any more speakers), so if you fancy a swapsie, plus cash (I'd be looking for around £850-900 for the 66s), give me a shout

Either that, or I could swap you for some minto Celestion 15XRs (medium-sized standmounts) and give you £50 cash, as I'd want £250 for the 15XRs...

Marco.

It's going well Marco. My system and house are rather different than the last time we met and the house dictated the system change. I now have B&W 801's being driven by a Nakamichi CA7/PA7 combination in a 40' x 16' x 13' room. There are still second and third systems though in a house this size!

The Howard's are great but they're not going to displace the 801's, no matter how good they are, so they're for sale. I doubt there is a better speaker for £300; they were £1,200 thirty odd years ago!

I need to lose gear so the 66's are not an option for me much as I know how good they are.

I now live in the former Brazilian consulate in Liverpool! A huge place by Sefton Park but a necessary, temporary solution when joining two families with two teenagers in each. Fortunately, it does give me an amazing opportunity for audiophile heaven.

It's a shame. I'm hoping wilbur still buys them but they've been reserved for a while and he's not responded to the last two messages I've sent him.
I'm hoping everything is ok but I have no other means of contact than pm.

I don't know Marco. He's a regular poster on here and agreed a sale four weeks ago. Said he'd pick them up in a couple of weeks but I've not heard since and he's not been on the site. Benefit of the doubt but I'm not holding them indefinitely when others are interested.

Marco
18-05-2015, 06:52
Ok, no worries. However, for me, there's no excuse not to have made contact somehow with you and explained what's going on.

Also, I'd always want some sort of commitment from a buyer (say a non-refundable 20% deposit, paid upfront), if items I'm selling are to be held for any length of time, as 'buyer's remorse' can kick in rather quickly.....

You'll usually find if folks have shelled out some dosh in advance, that they're more liable to be 'switched on' enough to settle the balance and conclude the sale, ASAP! ;)

Marco.

oldius
18-05-2015, 18:50
A deposit was offered and rejected by me as he seemed genuine. I just hope he is ok as I would guess it's a little odd for a regular poster to just abandon the forum suddenly. Still, someone else may get the benefit as these are extraordinary for the money and rare as hell in this condition.

Marco
20-05-2015, 06:10
Indeed. I also hope that Paul is ok, as a sudden illness (rendering him completely unable to use a computer) would be the only excuse for not keeping in touch with you. Undoubtedly, it is unusual behaviour for him.

Let's hope that you resolve the matter soon and find a good home for these wonderful speakers :)

Marco.
