Nothing new for my Solid State system but my valve system can expect :-
1. A new PSU for my 301
2. A Choir Audio (clone) with Hashimoto HM7 transformers
3. Tannoy York Cabs (RFC) redesign.
Numbers 2 & 3 are now being produced!

Make a new record player to fit our latest parallel tracker tonearm. I'm looking around for some donor bits. Keep hoping an old Lenco will turn up for pennies (well, centimes) but no luck yet. We are getting into boot sale time out here now though so something might turn up.
No other plans as the main system is sorted and static.

I will finish my log cabin which I have built for me and my Hifi (mancave) and when I've done so I will post photos, just a bit of ceiling to do now and wire in an alarm system, then I want to have an additional shelf made for my ReVo stand and have my M1108's upgraded to the latest Series 2 status, which I've heard and I want it done ASAP.
Enjoy your music :)
cheers Al
That is a cracking idea.
I could do with a new mancave where I can make as much noise as I want.

Putting some more bloody shelves up to hold it all. Loft man cave project on hold until someone gets their new bathroom.
I'm hoping to get my hands on two pairs of JR150s this coming weekend thanks to a very kind pink fishy. One pair is complete but in need of a lot of tlc and the other pair has no drivers, only cabs and crossovers. They should keep me out of mischief for a wee while. If anyone has Audax drivers going spare please get in touch.
I'm also hoping to pick up a pair of Dynaco A25s in the coming weeks and there's a wee pair of ARs that have caught my eye. I suspect that the vintage speaker bug that I caught last year has flared up again :)

Think it will be a kind of merging of home hobby studio (via a studio 8 channel A/D D/A) and hifi but via more diy items (err... that other people have made!). Still waiting for my Paradise phono to arrive and have a DIY Icepower 200asc stereoamp coming my way.. Want to figure out some proper full-range monitors by the end of the year.

Just bought a Roksan Kandy L.III..a real nice punchy integrated..boxed in mint condition..and some new Atlas Equator ic's ..I'm liking them a lot..
I have a Braun PS 500 that needs fettling - had it since the early 80s but has been neglected for the last decade.
Already gave it a quick clean and a new bit of string to get it going again but probably needs a stroke under the chin to get it purring properly.
Also want to lash together a garage setup with some spare bits and bobs for music in the Summer garden ........

The Braun is a lovely looking deck. Once fettled, would you expect the sq to meet the expectations set by the gorgeous design?

It isn't half bad 'as is' and I've managed to make some decent transfers with it since I got it moving again. The cartridge is still the original Shure m75-6s although it could do with a better stylus that the one I picked up to test it's potential. The auto lift and return is knackered (found the bits of the plastic cam when I opened it up) but that doesn't bother me. Need to find the right spindle oil/grease though as there is some faint ticking going on when it spins.
Surprised it's lasted to be honest - never really took much care of it and it saw some serious late nights in my yoof
Playing with speakers is what I have planned this year. I haven't heard many so I don't know what I'm missing or what is possible.
It's begun with a pair of Celestion Ditton 15s. At first I had thought I had made a horrible mistake in getting them. But, they just needed playing. As I listen to music through them more I find them quite beguiling. So, I'm pleased after all to have thought about doing this. I can live with them for 6 months before trying something else, I think.
My other plans are to fettle stuff. The speakers need stands (and not the Mission floor standers they are currently stood on!). And my Ariston RD80 needs to be properly set up and the Nagaoka MP11 put on to see what that does.

Putting some more bloody shelves up to hold it all..................
Yes, same here. I really need to sort out better storage for all the record players.
Move house. I need a room big enough to accommodate decent furniture, storage for all the hi-fi equipment, records and CDs, and breathing space for some really big speakers. Preferably with a decent rural or sea view. And lined with at least 40 metres of bookshelves as the books look good, are consulted, and have excellent acoustic properties!
Well, I can dream.
.... your wish is my command ;)
A quick snap I took this morning:

Will post more in a new thread when I get down to tackling it properly ...
Reckon I'm putting my "final" system in now...
Big upgrade in the amp front, back to glass bottles for me.
New Nick Gorham design 300B Set power amp to drive my Eddingdales and a Densen DM20 pre.
The Densens on its way back from Denmark after full service and recapping, new volume pot and input selector.
Be like the amp is new. :)
With that...I'm done I think, time to step of the ladder and just enjoy the choons...
Now having a think about whether to upgrade my Technoarm to a SME, think I need a long holiday instead!
Its the boys 21st soon, so a road trip for him and I will be better.
System wise, getting the cabling sorted properly will be the only other thing I can think of.
2015 project so far has been to settle on my final system and sell the rest. I have had a great journey but am very pleased that I no longer have any niggles and just enjoy the tunes.
Putting some more bloody shelves up to hold it all. Loft man cave project on hold until someone gets their new bathroom.
I feel your pain.
I have had three bedrooms, the hallway and a bathroom to decorate. Two bedrooms are done already. the hallway just needs painting and the bathroom is almost finished, ready for the plumber to wave his magic wand.
On top of that, I need to buy all of the baby paraphernalia that Mrs H will be wanting, as apparently she can't keep Baby H inside for a couple of extra months to give me time to sort it all out in a reasonable manner.
I'm just wondering if I will have anything left for speakers!
glad to say babies and even grand babies are a thing of the past.:D
enjoy the fun though
Fun???
When does that start? ;)

Nah, you have no exposed tubes or DIY high voltage stuff lying about, so just need to be very firm when they go near it reiterating that it's dangerous! My daughter never goes near mine & never did, and now knows how to use it all with respect. I remember one time she turned the volume the wrong way and was very freaked out by the loudness, just glad I had Amphion speakers in and not the Royds.
To start to "de-clutter" the results of 45 years involvement in this hobby of ours. I have an absurd amount of redundant equipment, and I just need the space for other purposes.

In no particular order:
(1) Re-furbish and make a new control unit for my ex-BBC Technics SP10
(2) Re-furbish Gates CB77 No. 1 and Gray 108 arm
(3) See if I can have the parts made to re-furbish Gates CB-77 No.2 (which was originally only supposed to be spares for No.1 but I 'accidentally' bought an arm to go on it now, so HAVE to get it running!)
(4) Re-furbish Leak 3090 loudspeakers
(5) Re-foam and re-furbish B&O Beovox Penta loudspeakers
(6) Finally dig the Quad 22/AM2/Pair of IIs out of their walnut cabinet and send them off to AmpRegen for some fettling.
(7) Tweak the crossover on my Goodmans B-Max passive subwoofer so that it only does bass and not midrange as well. (Why, Goodmans, WHY???)
(8) Tidy up my B&O Beolab 8000 system - the speaker stands need re-painting, the cabinets need some attention, the wiring needs tidying up etc.
(9) Sort out a plinth for my Garrard 401
And probably more Ive forgotten. Too many projects; too little time!

So you may not be around on here much longer?
My first thought was that I didn't have much in mind.
But.
I have knocked up a cable to run the Mini from a car battery or similar and will get the battery tomorrow.
I may well change the led on the Mini to green.
I quite fancy clocking and a nos mod on the CJ too but couldn't find much English-language info.
Oh and I'm always on the lookout for speakers, something small and precise again.

I thought I didn't have any but as of yesterday now have a study system
Dual 1019 with Ortofon VMS 30 MkII
Quad 33/303 pre-power
Denon something or other CD/FM/DAB all in one that handily outputs line level to the Quad
JPW P1 speakers which wound fab with the Quad
Main project for the year is getting my custom pre from Will at Radford Revival though he's loaned me a very nice Woodside C26 which I actually could happily live with.

I like the sound of that! :)
Kick back and just enjoy the music, as I'm (virtually) done! Happy as a sandboy with all sonic aspects of my system, and so (aside from some light tweaking), I'm now just simply expanding my music collection... :)
TBH, these days I'm much more into tuning and modifying my new car (Brabus modified Mercedes C320, as shown in my avatar), and enjoying blasting her around the Welsh countryside, than in any aspect of hi-fi - especially when the weather is as nice as it currently is
Marco,
Buy new sofa(s). Maybe dust a bit. Write a dissertation (15,000 words). Think of something to write 15,000 words about. Tidy up CDs which are out of control.
Now the weather is better bout the best sound I hear is the Porsche back firing as it changes down gears when braking.
Gonna race Marco's Brabus for fun.
No plans for the hi-fi apart from maybe re-connecting my analogue rig which has been out of the system since I got the Lampi B7 DAC. Not heard a record in many, many months!
Gonna race Marco's Brabus for fun.

Boxster 981. Wouldn't surprise me if you have more BHP. What does that thing have? Looks mean...
Mean is good, baby... It's been tuned to deliver 315bhp and 700nm of torque. 0-60 in 5.7 secs. Your Boxter probably has more bhp, but it'll likely also be heavier. Regardless, you've got a nice car, mate. Any pics? :)

probably similar horsepower although the Brabus should have more torque

I think I've been persuaded by the visit to Jimbo's and a lot of very recent research to design a valve based phono/line preamp.
I'm thinking MC/MM phono input plus 3 line inputs with an option of remote control volume/mute with Croft level of performance :)

Well, we'll have to agree to differ on that one Gordon, much as I like and enjoy my hi-fi system, I'd sell it in a heartbeat if I were forced to choose between it and my car!!
Ultimately, I enjoy driving nice cars more than using my hi-fi system. It just provides me with a great deal of enjoyment, on so many levels. For me, my current car goes way beyond being a "mere means of transport", as driving nice cars, on roads where it's a pleasure to enjoy them properly, is such HUGE FUN for me.
Listening to music, however, is different: I'd NEVER be without my music collection and the wherewithal to play it. However, once I fit the sound system I had in my last car (and removed when I sold it), into the new car, I'll be able to enjoy top-notch sounds in there whilst I'm driving [and trust me the Kenwood/JBL system sounds stunningly good], which for me will be the best of both worlds!

then going to get a comfy chair and start sorting out the Hi Fi
Would love to have all new kit in there but think its going to be a load of my old stuff unless I land a well paid job
Really want to get a brand new Sugden Amp:)
One thing I have never really had is proper speaker stands and racks for the rest of the kit will pick up some solid wooden furniture to use to put all the electronics on but leave getting a pair of speaker stands till I buy some new speakers I really like

I might look out for a cheap pair of Harbeth's or even some LS3/5a's or some Yamaha NS1000m's. Always fancied trying them but never seemed to be able to justify the expense because I own 3 pairs of speakers (yes I realise this is only a small number) and that's after I whittled them down from around 7 pairs!

Leaving the transport behind (as my old Alfas would THAT boring Mercedes taxi - round the corners anyway) I have actually achieved a small project this week.
The Quads have moved to the boring place i.e. either side of the fireplace. This means that they are now equidistant from the back wall and fire across the short dimension of the room. The room is a funny shape and one was about half a metre further from the back wall than the other previously. Much cleaner sound and a definite improvement in the image. It is now rock solid and totally divorced from the speakers. It required the purchase of 20 metres of cable but it's good thick stuff and the result is very pleasing for not much effort or expense.
The only disadvantage is the the listening chair now sits in front of the door but that is a small price to pay.

At the going rate I reckon you'd get two pairs of decent NS1000s for the price of a mint pair of early Rogers LS3/5a's. I've used various LS3/5a's and would not want to go down that route. I've not used the Yams, but I've heard them many times and always been impressed.

No probs... I (and thus also the car) don't really 'do' city centres much, therefore where I drive mostly, if the Merc were to receive such treatment, it'd be more likely to be crumpled by a cow than torn apart by a taxi! :eyebrows:

Or buy twenty pairs of KEF101s. Mine are driven by 34/306 and iTunes and sound terrific, better than the LS35As for me after direct comparison. I haven't heard the Yamahas but they seem well liked.
My project for the next few months is Garrard turntables.
Ive had several modern turntables in the last few years and enjoyed them all. But I love the vibe of old stuff........ so Garrards it is.
Ive got an oil bearing 301 up and running. It is great. But Ive got a grease bearing version which is almost ready to go. And Ive got an early twin suppressor 401 also.
I need plinths for them all, and then the plan is to put vintage SME arms with removeable headshells on all 3. This will allow me to use the same cartridge on all.
The idea is to see what the differences are, and which I prefer.
Loads of fun.

OK quick update.
1. New Tannoy cabs are now being designed.
2. TEAC VRDS 25X will at some point this/next month be appraised for discrete power regulation.
3. Paradise phonostage might be getting some new mods depending on feedback on a new design.
4. Garrard 301 PSU is still being sourced. This is proving difficult.
Its going to be a busy year!

My plans are rather modest, on the other hand the year is getting on :-/
Shall replace the tweeters on my Ditton 44's and at least refurbish the crossovers.
Refinish the cabinets which are tatty to say the least
Build a pair of 12" stands
Build a bigger TNT flexi rack
Oh and buy lots of albums:eyebrows:
Graham
I've being vaguely thinking about new speakers for some time, and actually auditioned several pairs at the end of last year. None of them seemed appreciably better than what I'm currently using, so I'm saving my pennies for now. We're also planning a reorganisation of our living rooms, so probably best to wait till that project's finished.
My music collection could do with pruning, so several carrier bags-full will be offloaded on the local chair shop.
A new set of speakers - possibly Electric Beach FH3s
2015 project complete.
I even snuck in a Caiman II DAC, so the final project of this year will probably be a nice digital lead.
Snuck in? You're not still at that stage, are you? :eyebrows:

Well, spending cash on HiFi when there is a much more expensive new arrival in the house, will probably be frowned upon.
Designing a large 3-way is on the cards and will remain a paper project for the time being. I already have the design established in terms of the type/tuning with the rest of the detailed engineering design to follow.

Not necessarily in this order
1. A cartridge upgrade for the TD160 - maybe one of you folks has something you might like to sell on?
2. An upgraded plinth for the TD160 - Russ Collinson?
3. And a new lid for the same - seen one or two bespoke producers around, any suggestions?
4. And and PI Raspberry set up for me digital stuff - a DIY project I'm looking forward to.

Having built and modified several Class D amps over the years, I was coerced into trying the latest "wonder" product which costs the princely sum of £15 for the amp module. Of course as is the case with all these cheap boards, they have been put together on a shoestring and in some places the totally wrong components used. The input caps are mains supply x2 0.22uf,crazy. But....if you have the time and patience and a stash of stuff from past component purchases you can put together a very competent sounding amp for little money. This particular board is based on the postage stamp sized TPA3116 chip from Texas Instruments. A lot of the stuff that has been around for some years uses the Tripath chips (TA2024, 2020) like the Trends, Topping ,Amptastic)
The TPA3116 can take an input voltage of up to 26v which is said to give a max of 50w per channel. I am running mine with a linear 24v supply which makes it go plenty loud enough. Class D chips should run pretty cool. I have not run this for any length of time yet, but it appears to be stable.
Power supply is a potted Avel-Lindberg tranny, with an LC, LC and cap rectifier board and a JLH Ripple Eater. The TPA 3116 is to the right of the pic with "proper" input caps (Sonicap 4.7uf the yellow blobs are hot melt glue to keep the connections stable - the caps have been used several times before:D) and uprated on-board PS caps.
If you are interested in making a amp then these cheap boards are a good way in. They are cheap and if make a mistake or blow them up then you haven't done much of your money. They sound a hell of a lot better than they have a right to.
There is a very looong thread on Diyaudio about these boards.

For my new rega RP6 I need amplification and Monitors.
Ronnie and I have a little arrangement. Anything under £100 doesn't need discussing. Over that and we talk it through. It's amazing how much good hi-fi that covers and how few shoes and dresses:eyebrows:

:booty: Your system has its own arse Justin?
Does it need cleaning daily? :sofa:
we'll have no polishing jokes on this thread....
we'll have no polishing jokes on this thread....
All systems need a good polish every now and then - I guess the frequency is just a product of the size of its arse:D
Simple! After step 1, though, the order of the steps may change.
1. Clean up my home work space enough so that I can get to step 2
2. Fix up a Raspberry Pi/Hifiberry Digi combo, test it against the Squeezebox Touch
3. Finish up a tube (valve) headphone amp I've been working on
4. Sell any piece of hifi equipment that I haven't used for more than a year.
I think that's it.
Selling all my excess gear!
Upgrading the woofers on my Audes Blues - in progress as they arrived yesterday and I've just installed one already.
Pimping my old 640P phonostage for a laugh
Investing in a serious power amp and maybe a quality pre to follow
Perhaps the battery PSU for the Project Phonobox RS, or even a new phono stage altogether (Croft etc)
Selling all my excess gear!
Yep.
1. Change my Proac 140's for D18's
2. Upgrade my OL Silver Mk3 arm to OL Illustrious Mk3
3. Have Mr Croft upgrade my 25 to 25R
1. now completed.
2. & 3. when I get a new job
Then buy more vinyl :eyebrows:

OK quick update.
1. New Tannoy cabs are now being designed.
2. TEAC VRDS 25X will at some point this/next month be appraised for discrete power regulation.
3. Paradise phonostage might be getting some new mods depending on feedback on a new design.
4. Garrard 301 PSU is still being sourced. This is proving difficult.
Its going to be a busy year!
Did you get sorted on that front? I may be able to build you such a thing depending on requirements and of course budget.....

Hmmm, Let's just say that 2015 turns out to be very different to what it started as…
In 2015 I wanted to build a valve preamplifier (vaguely based on the Audio Note M7, sic!)
I wanted to make some bespoke cross overs for the Tannoy LGM 12"
I wanted to pimp my Heybrook TT2 to a dedicated PSU (something of the flavour of a Geddon Clone)
Also build some good IC's following some very popular recipes found on AOS.
But…
It looks like I am going to have to downsize drastically.
Financial pressure to start anew with 0 debts are mounting and I just decided to give in.
So gone is the 845 SET integrated, gone soon 2 of my TT's, gone a stock of spare valves and various bits of HIFI pish…
The very positive fact was to discover the raspberry PI + IQ Audio DAC+ (thanks Marco!). It answered all my questions. Best VFM ever! I ended up selling the Squeezebox Touch and Arcam rDac in an instant, so much better the sound was, coming from that diminutive box of tricks!
So, now I am actually wondering on which TT to keep, which arm and which cart?
I was listening to the Heybrook TT2 last night with the Audiomods 4 with micrometer VTA and the AN IQ3, and I was at first pleasantly surprised at the smoothness and the width and breath of the soundstage.
YELLO - The Race opened with such an amazing soundscape, the bass was solid and full weight. I thought, my God, this is the ONE!
But then I played a few DECCA classics, Curzon playing Brahms First Piano under the conducting of Gorge Szell and the Midband started slurring quite badly, the Highs were veiled despite the bass being still very solid.
Well, as they says you can't have you cake and eat it…
Sounds like the search is still on, only one Turntable can stay... Next the AN IQ3 + Audiomods on the Lenco.

saving for new valve pre amp !! mind you I am well impressed with the tisbury I am using
I've been attempting three things: anti-vibration control, power supply, and CD cleaning/preparation.
For the power supply I looked at regenerators, conditioners and a balanced mains supply, deciding on a regenerator. I also put in a dedicated radial which achieved nothing but a handily placed socket!
For anti-vibration I looked at feet and platforms to go under my gear, and platforms under my speakers. I used Symposium products mostly.
I'm still investigation CD cleaning. Here's an interesting video on the subject:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V98KUteailc
All these additions apparently improve the noise levels so that generally you get a more musical feel to the music.

I originally wanted these 4 things to be done before the end of the years.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. New Tannoy cabs are now being designed.
2. TEAC VRDS 25X will at some point this/next month be appraised for discrete power regulation.
3. Paradise phonostage might be getting some new mods depending on feedback on a new design.
4. Garrard 301 PSU
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, the Tannoy cabs are now finished so thats one thing off the list.
I've finally found somebody thats going to put the 301 PSU together.
The Paradise is the next stage, so I need to get in contact with Simon.....:D
None.
I started 2015 with the specific intention of getting my Technics TT to a point where sonically it would surpass any other I own or have owned.
Now it's complete and I'm happy with the result :)

Mine is still finishing my TT. It is still in bare wood and needs veneering. The veneer is here but the contact adhesive required is in the UK.
Allegedly, the delivery of said adhesive is dependent on a house extension being completed somewhere in the West Midlands. Actually, I reckon he is just enjoying gallivanting about the UK showing off his latest bottles instead of coming back out here:eyebrows:
It does mean I have to listen to music instead of working though:cool:

Well it's been a while since I started this thread. I've managed to get my Tannoy cabs sorted and the 301 PSU is still under investigation (the options are being assessed) :eyebrows:. I'm now in a pickle. I was going to get a new SUT made for the valve system, but new Paul over at RFC is making "The Ultimate" XO for the Tannoys. So, do I get the SUT first or do I get Paul to start making me a pair of new XO's?
The only thing I have done, that I said I would do, is to sell-off equipment equipment surplus to requirement (I need the space). Unfortunately I've only sold a CD player, yet have bought a new one. So in reality, I haven't made any progress in that direction at all!
On the other hand I'm redecorating the living/listening room, and in doing so taking the opportunity to have 14 extra mains sockets fitted. Whilst the electrician has the floorboards up, I will lay in the balanced-line interconnects that run between the power monoblocks and the preamp; I dislike seeing them run around the skirting board and laying on the carpet.
Thus if any progress is being made, it was not originally on my "to do" list for 2015!

Aha. The Hi-Fi vicious circle at work again. I seem to be a victim too (probably worse). :)

You're not far off the mark:
2 CD players

2 R2R machines

4 turntables
8 arms
7 tuners

7 turntables
5 sets of amplification
4 CD players/transports
1 MD recorder
1 tuner
2 DACS
12 cartridges (at least)
5 pairs of speakers
6 separate tonearms
Some of these are part assembled/dismantled though and there are boxes and boxes of bits.
9 POWER AMPS??? 9 !!... suddenly I feel better about myself  Ive been trying to reduce and although it was , and still is difficult I am starting to feel better, and am hoping to be disease free soon. :rfl:

I've got a new 2015 hi-fi job after collecting my latest acquisition yesterday (after only 20 years of wanting one!) and I think it may have to go straight to the top of the list:
- Repair and re-furbish Thorens TD224 autochanger.

Buy new sofa(s). Maybe dust a bit. Write a dissertation (15,000 words). Think of something to write 15,000 words about. Tidy up CDs which are out of control.

Dissertation duly written and submitted. Now writing PhD application like the mad fool I am.
Sofas not yet bought.
Bit of dusting done, but somehow things just seem to get dusty again. Dusty in Memphis.
CDs tidied up a bit
Future plans: sell stuff to pay for PhD fees.

Nah, PhD's are overrated, expensive, time consuming, compulsive behaviour inducing, soul & brain sucking and totally incomprehensible to others affairs; none of these apply to hi-fi, right?
Remedy: Buy more hi-fi. Your inner self will thank you for it.
P.S.: Congrats on the completion of your thesis - well done!

Kick back and just enjoy the music, as I'm (virtually) done! Happy as a sandboy with all sonic aspects of my system, and so (aside from some light tweaking), I'm now just simply expanding my music collection... :)
Marco,
So, how are the new preamps, and how is the replacement of the 66's going?
Lol... The new passive preamps are simply additions to my system, as part of an experiment/learning curve - nothing as yet has been replaced by them :)
There has not been, nor will there be, any replacements for the 66s. I just had too many speakers, and so ones as good as the 66s should go to someone who will use them and appreciate them, as indeed they have done!
Marco.
My new amp was not in my plan either.
These things happen. I think I am almost done. I may get a new rack or a turntable shelf, but will mostly be concentrating on the "software" from now on.
Cool... That's largely where I am at, too.
Like I said on another thread, there's a point where the journey has to end, unless you're simply a collector of kit or have an illness (count me out), and you indulge much more in the whole purpose of what being into hi-fi *should* be about: listening to and discovering new music! :)

I may try and experiment with a new / different amp next year. Nothing definite yet but of something comes up in the classifieds I like the look of for the right price I may take a punt. I could also see a new cartridge coming into the system as well but nothing is set in stone.

Well, I've just ordered the new (released 1/12/2015) Cyrus Phono Signature. It has inputs for 4 TT's (I've only got the one, but what the hay), remote control for changing cartridge settings on the fly. This is the last addition for 2015 which saw the arrival of a pair of Cyrus MonoX300's, a Cyrus Pre2DAC Qx and a pair of Spendor D7's.
I didn't realise you had sold your Celestions Marco!
I don't personally have any specific plans for 2016, I've got some component upgrades in the pipeline for my phonostage and there may be a new pre-amp (but that is uncertain). No doubt stuff will come along :).
Hi Mark,
I didn't realise you had sold your Celestions Marco!
'Subject to payment', as they say. However, the buyer is a regular here, so I'm not anticipating any issues. He's certainly got a bloody good deal! :)

Yeah, same here. You're probably at the same stage as me: if something good crops up, you'll look at it, but are not going out of your way to change anything. It's rather like the biggest and best football teams: if the right players come along (someone special), they'll sign them, but otherwise are happy to go with what's in the squad

If you can get a passive to gel in your system, especially one featuring a quality (and sensitive) valve amp (like yours), there's a magic to the musical presentation that NO active preamp I've heard can match.
Whether you get to hear that at NEBO, mate, or not, remains to be seen... And yes, if you can, the Densen would act as a very useful known reference :)

After much consideration and head scratching I'm progressing towards recasing the Paradise amp channels in nonmagnetic acrylic cases with venting to channel the heat from the shunt out of the case and away from the input stage. There'll be additional draft proofing around the input stage transistors to bring their operating conditions closer to those they were matched at. 22 degrees.
Got a couple of things to tidy up. a few out.... and I expect a couple of nice toys in time for xmas. It maybe a bit of a full circle in some ways but am hoping to be in a nice audio place in 2016; well for me anyways.:) with a choice of system presentations. Its a funny old game

Having got the Art Audio Symphony this week, I think this and it's 300Bs are here for a long while at least. The Art Audio VP1 can be run as a buffered passive and this is certainly the best I think. I'm staggered by this amp, the mid clarity is maybe the best I've heard with done of the nasty lack of bass grip I hear with a lot of 300b SET offerings from other companies. May put a Vinyl One in the system for a try. The main thing is that I am spending a lot of time listening to the tunes :) Next year will see time for the Koetsu to be rebuilt, may go up to an Urushi.

Be careful of that very magnetic acrylic ! Sounds like you've been reading too many press releases for commercial designs where everything non-magnetic is stated as such just for clarity...
Typing this drinking a non-magnetic cup of coffee from a non-magnetic mug.
One error they do make is when they say "non-magnetic aluminium". Any conducting surface becomes magnetic when eddy currents are induced by a moving magnetic field, as shown in the kids section of the Science Museum.
Your Paradise units look fantastic by the way! A little jealous as mine sits in a very DIY box..
