I pulled the plug on some new cabs from Paul @ RFC. Could be quite interesting seeing how this work in my valve setup. They should take ~7 weeks to arrive.

Apparantley the Lockwoods resonate like a B'Stard and colour what you hear. These babies are going to be HEAVY and they will sit on custom made stands which will also house my extrinsic X-o. Should be nice.

Lockwoods?.... which ones do you have? I thought you still had them in the Lancasters.

... I didn't know you had some Lockwoods, which are they? Lockwoods shouldn't resonate unless there is something wrong, who has told you that twoddle?

I still have them in Lankies and I have never owned a pair of lockwoods. You need to speak to Paul at Rfc with regards cabinet vibration etc.

ah, I see...

No probs, Andrew... lol.. no need to ask, dude as I've heard Majors, Universals, Academys and another one I can't quite remember the name of, none of them resonate.

Any cabinate will resonate if they have become un-braced due to damage or shrinkage due to age and/or conditions etc.

Lancasters 'can' resonate badly though as they are pretty flimsy, no internal bracing etc... so almost anything will be an improvement over those.

I had a pair of Lockwood Majors (they were the ones that used to be orange...) firstly with Golds and then with hammerite early Reds.

I subsequently purchased Tom Knights (rectangular) GRFs which were a huge improvement IMHO.

They had been heavily braced and modified and as such were much more solid, leading to a reduction in coloration and resonance. I also found the rear loading of the drive unit lead to a more natural sound, which imaged better and sounded more 3D.

Having said all this Tom's RFC designed cabs sound great so Id expect you will be very happy :-)
