Is anyone else noticing the bass-heavy sound of some recent live evening concerts on R3? It's like having the old "loudness" button pushed in on a 1970s amplifier. Listening to Zukerman playing the Elgar Violin Concerto just now from the RFH, the plucked double bass sounded like John Paul Jones or Paul McCartney had turned up with their electric bass guitars. Are they compensating for something? Cheap DAB radios perhaps? Are they trying to go back to the days of the "lovely warm tone"?

I'm often amazed at the low frequency response off the terrestrial digital TV. Some programs have almost 'infra bass' to give impact to certain scenes, though of course it's totally wasted for the majority of folks who listen through the flat screen built in speakers.
