All sorts have been used with success. There is a school of thought that older designs will have more synergy - so a Denon 103 for example is a popular choice.

There new speakers less than 30 hours. I never knew what I was missing in the high end. Side two of Abby Road was an incredible experience. Ribbon tweeter wow!

I use the Quintet Red. I find it tonally accurate (read neutral)with superb imaging and soundstage.
For the money you could probably jump up to a Blue.

Get this and forget the rest, just kidding but it's superb on the 1210.

I found the DV20X2l a poor match and although it costs a small fortune I just broke down when I heard it and had to have it.

I tried the following carts, in order of preference

Denon DL-110 in Jelco HS
Denon DL-103R with Shibata stylus in Ebony body and Ebony Headshell
Benz Wood in Jelco HS
SPU Synergy
Denon DL-102 (mono) in Jelco/Sumiko HS

Be aware that most of the carts (not the DL-110) need a heavy aux. weight to balance.

All in Original arm, the worse part of the org. arm is the HS so replace it.
The DL-110 is a high output MC but needs a preamp with about 50 dB of gain to bloom that's why I used a homemade EAR 834P. All others where used with an Audio Note M7 Phono 38 dB gain (also home made) with different SUTs.
Difference between them all is not that big as putting them in a list suggests, just prefered the DL-110, a bit less bass as the others but a bit more detail, just lovely.

Kol, I just want to get this right: you preferred the Denon DL110 over the Benz Wood?

Yeah, in this particular case yes. The DL-110 in the Original HS sounds thin and somewhat bright but in the Jelco HS-25 it sounds very good. With a phono preamp with a gain of 38dB it did not sound as good as with the 50dB gain of the 834P.
I don't say the Benz Wood sounds bad, I easily could have swapped the positions of carts 2, 3 and 4 in the list above, but in this particular case the DL-110 was just singing.
