i may be buying a new mains block,nothing fancy, do i really need surge protection?

No. :) what's your budget? IMHO the industrial-grade blocks are as good or better than the "audio" ones and a lot cheaper!

hi, i dont want to spend much, i was thinking about a straight forward maplin job or there are some ont bay 'audio friendy' thats name of seller £30

As long as there is no filtering or surge protection on it it'll be fine. Those ones on eBay look nice for the price and it's un-switched too with no filters or surge suppression, which is a good thing. :)

Agreed - I use an Olsen 6-way block fitted with a Schaffner filter and VDR surge limiter. The on/off switch and neon indicator have been disabled (i.e. removed)

What about using a Pure sine wave UPS? They have in built surge protections as well as protection against brown outs. Plus mains conditioning.

The Tacima block is fine

I use a Tacima for my noisy stuff like router, PC, TV etc.

just dug out a russ andrews power link mains extension that id forgotten about, :)
