I've just picked up another Quad 405 ready for service, when I serviced my last 405 I used the Dada kit which came with the necessary wire. Can anyone tell me what size / gauge wire I should use to replace the existing power wires? Would this be suitable http://www.rapidonline.com/design-technology/rapid-1-0-6mm-single-core-equipment-wire-on-100m-reels-62317, or could I just use 0.75mm / 1mm multi strand?

I have Kimber 'TCX' in mine.

£14.00 p/m, that's a spicy meatball  What do you use the 15AWG?

My Loudspeakers are also wired in it.. I use 'TCSS' for the signal wire.
Yes it 15 guage.
I use 99.999% silver wire from HTC in all my power amps:

I've used it in both Quad 303's and 306's, not yet in a 405 though.
I'm even using it in the A&R A60 that I'm working on now.

Cheap do considering the lack of wire in em, why i wernt bothered about the cost with my A60 :eyebrows:

Thanks for the link, £35.00 + VAT p/m for 1.5mm, crikey! I see a length of stripped flex in my future.

True, but I'm using the silver wire to replace all the links on the board, still well less than 1 metre in total :-)
My valve amps tend to use more wire...

1.5mm wire is pretty thick! mostly I use the 0.5mm or the 1mm depending on requirement.

I don't see the logic in replacing those links. Your still faced with Solder tracks at each end of the links..

I know, but since I had the board out anyway, and was replacing a few resistors and a lot of capacitors, I thought why not?

For mains I use Belden 19364
I use 19 x 0.25mm for most of the wiring in my amplifiers signal and power
In pre amps I use shielded signal cable usually from Klotz or Vann Damme.
Where I require high current I use 19 x 0,45mm (Power supply to amplifier power rails)
I get it from here its all PTFE coated silver plated copper and very nice wire
The PTFE costing is thin so the wire looks thin but it has the same gauge of copper as a much heavier looking cable
For speaker wires I use speaker cable usually Vann Damme

Hi Alan, thanks for the link, that's more the end of the market I'm shopping at (no offence Andr'e / Graeme, just more money than I want to spend at the moment). I too plan on wiring the signal with Klotz (using off cuts from DIY IC's) and wiring the speakers with VD as that's what I'm using as speaker cable and have plenty of it left. Very nice job on the amp BTW :).
